Kon MIGHT be better in the NBA than summer league. They play less defense there and a more open court game. I still; have some faith in him. If nothing else I think our SG position has improved this draft.

It would be HELLA sad tho if TAELON PETER turns out better than the 3 SG's we drafted. Also would be sad if we have to draft ANOTHER SG next year

He's just out there. He's looked the worst of all the rookies so far.

4 assists and +11 on the court says looks aren't everything.

4 assist lol

#4 pick bro we have to set higher expectations for Kon.

Watching this game Kalk looks like he should have been a higher pick. Even McNeeley has looked better.

It's 1 game. Who cares? Yall are so reactionary to meaningless games. He looked fine all things considered. If he shoots 80% from 3 the next 4 games it won't change anything either.

These athletes are rich af. I'd be fortunate to come in at a little under 10,000 lifetime earnings.

Maybe I’m just a hater but I didn’t think Salaun was that great in that game, his shot selection is still dumb, he got lucky to hit some this game and only have a couple airballs. Blowing layups and falling uncoordinated all over the floor

KJ Liam and Kalk on the other hand actually look like guys you could imagine playing solid grown up basketball. Impressed there

I think the game showed mostly that the second year guys are better. Filopowski, Collier, Cody and KJ, Saluan all played well. Liam and Walter had great performances for first year fellas. Nice to win.

Had to record the game so just finished watching. Impressions:

Well organized effort by the Hornets, kudos to the coaching staff. Four rookies getting significant minutes playing a team that’s already several games into their SL.

KJ Simpson just looked really good, so quick, has made strides during the off-season. He’s got to make his case to stay on this roster.

Heck of a game from McNeeley. He looked like a vet out there, sweet stroke, hustle, rebounds, passing, decent defense, quicker than you’d expect. I wanna see more!

Sion James is a linebacker, did a few good things, but he may be destined for Swarm duty. Shot looked wonky.

Kon had a rough start…feeling the pressure of living up to pick 4 in his first NBA game. Not worried, but if we expect a level of a 4th pick (in a deep draft) production from him, should probabky lower expectations. His lack of quickness looks ready to hurt him, even at SL level. But it’s early. Anyone thinking he might start next to Melo best get adjusted immediately. Sexton was sitting next to LaMelo tonight.,.he knows where he’s gonna play.

Kalkbrenner was solid, not great, not bad, just played a steady game. Made some plays, blocks, got beat at times, but played smart. Filo gave the Hornets a BIG warning flare tonight. Nobody should expect Kalk to be our starter, as he’s not ready or able. Jeffie better get a deal cookin.

Tiddy showed improvement. His handle and drives were a bit better, his footwork was more purposeful, he made some plays, hit some wild corner 3’s, hustled as always. He also took some poor shots, airballed at least one, was still getting out of position defensively at times, and I never really saw him win tough rebound battles. But his work is showing signs that maybe, someday, he can be a bench rotation big.

Hall might end up here on our last 2-way, but I really hope we can find a better big for that slot. He throws his body around, works hard, but his limitations show why Denver cut him.

Fun game, good win to start SL. Kon needs work so no sitting him early at any point. I’d keep all those rookies playing throughout. Looking forward to the next game.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

These are the kinds of post others including myself should make. We’re all emotional ptsd doomed hornets fans at the end of the day so I get it.

Great thought out post though.

Those 2 threes where it looked like he turned to the jazz bench and grabbed his balls was awesome. That enthusiasm will turn into something in the next year or two. Still has work to do but it’s hard not to like him.

Judging guys in SL (in order of minutes played tonight).

Kon- 30 mins. Felt like he barely played, probably because his lack of an impact on the game especially in the 2nd half. He made a few decent passes and defense was in right spot a few times in first half but almost totally invisible 2nd half. Had the ball stripped several times driving and was pinned off the glass on a layup tonight. D+

Kalkbrenner- Pretty uneventful, only 5 boards in 30 mins, blocks he had weren't very agile. Flip put up 32 on us. Got blown by several times. Most of his buckets were pretty mundane. C

KJ- Awesome first half, great energy. Want to see more, shot it way better tonight. A-

McNeely- great debut, shot it confidently. Ultra fast release and was aggressive off the dribble, felt like he was everywhere on boards, passing and even hitting a few nice floaters and layups in a crowded paint. A+

Tidjane- Still sloppy at times, but him putting up 20 in a game with only 2 threes is impressive to me considering who he was last year. Want to see another strong performance tomorrow. B+

Sion- pretty uneventful, had a few wide open layups on set plays but didn't have too much that stood out in 19 mins, missed 3 wide open 3s. C-

Jaylen Sims- Looked great, but we already have a full roster and he is older. B+

PJ Hall- meh a guy I like potentially as 2way contract but tonight was pretty uneventful even though he had 7 pts on 2 fga. C+

Baugh- looked way too aggressive early, didn't play bad but just don't really see him as anything moving forward so hopefully he takes a backseat to guys that I want to see do well. C

I said earlier I wasn't going to freak out if Kon looked bad or good, because it is just summer league. However, it is fine to also admit he had a bad game.

Played 30 mins and had 1 rebound, was stripped on drives, blocked at rim. 1/3 from 2 pt range, 0/5 from 3, 3/6 from FT. Also, had 3 turnovers and all were him just getting overwhelmed by defender when trying to make a play off dribble.

I agree Kon will shoot it better in future games, that is what he does. However, I thought he had a few really bad defensive possessions and every time he tried to get downhill it was either a neutral or negative result. Need to see much more juice on the ball moving forward if he is going to meet expectations that many on this board have for him.

Catching up on the Wizards Phoenix game right now. With this much talent and rotation players on this Wizard Summer League team, they shouldn't look this bad. That being said Tre does look pretty effortless offensively.
