I suggest we stop taking 7 run leads in the first place going forward and just keep it close all game

If Cleveland is really going to trade Emmanuel Clase before the deadline, I would hope the Jays would do what it takes to get him. Clase has three more seasons of club control.

You cannot throw all your eggs with Hoffman. Hoffman has pitched well the last couple of weeks, and then he looks terrible against a garbage team like Oakland tonight. Clase is a guy I would be comfortable with Closing games in the post-season, over Hoffman.

This is a joke minor league stadium and field; I wouldn’t take much of anything from anything that goes on in it for any player (including Hoffman’s appearance). Ridiculous run environment.

Would be trading for a RP anyway though. They’ve got a serious need there with all the injuries.

I think we need a better closer than Hoffman

The Muncy homer was a bomb. It would've easily left Comerica. Hoffman's been too inconsistent to rely on down the stretch.

Oakland have some good young hitters, their pitching is the reason why they're terrible. But yeah Clase would be nice.

He’d allowed 2 runs in his last 15 appearances (with his last ER being exactly a month ago) going into that inning and the inning would have been over if a slowly hit groundball didn’t bounce over his 3B’s head.

I think we can calm the panic down here.

If this organization is serious about post-season success, then I would definitely get another Closer. Two guys that would fit the bill clearly would be Clase from Cleveland, and Carlos Estevez from Kansas City (heading to the all-star game next week). Estevez has been more elite than Clase this year, but is control under for two more years and Clase has three more years. However, Clase was the most dominant Closer in all of MLB last year.

Hoffman was also a Setup man, while Estevez was the Closer in Philadelphia last year. So, Hoffman could be moved down to 8th Inning Duties again and it would be familiar territory. It is about winning games, and not "feelings", so regardless Hoffman would be better suited as the Setup Man again like he was dominant one last year. The price would be steep since they are both under control and a lot of interest, but I am inclined to pay that price to get either guy. The time is now to go for it with the AL East pretty much wide open, with guys like Bichette, Bassitt, Scherzer, all likely being elsewhere next year also.

That minor league stadium is the cause of both.

You won’t be able to get that without paying a crazy amount and I’d prefer to use our assets to better our poor rotation myself. Hoffman had a terrible 3 week stretch in May but he’s otherwise been good.

It’s a big part for sure. That stadium is a total joke for major leaguers to be playing in. I’d expect more high scoring games the next two days.

Fair point, but with how banged up and overworked this bullpen has been up to this point- it is critically as important or even more important, to get another high leverage reliever to alleviate the pressure on guys like Yariel and Hoffman. If you are going to get a reliever, might as pay the steep price and get an elite one like Clase or Estevez.

Nah, small sample size. He's been Inconsistent on the year. We could use a better closer.

What small sample size? The first bad game he’s had in over a month yesterday?

Yeah, that’s definitely one.

We're only .500 on the road but the best road record is only 27-20 and after the Cubs win today they got the 2nd best road record which is only 3 games over .500

Don't look now, but Boston has won 9 in a row. Going to be a tight race until the end. Hopefully, we make it into the playoffs.

I wonder when Boston will rest three of their everyday regular players during this winning streak, because the analytics recommends that? Still puzzling how the Jays handled the last game in Chicago when you could have made history.

It's crazy to think about. They threw away that game, and they could have made history. lol. Idiots.
