There is ZERO chance they come anywhere close to risking losing their 1st round pick. The front office can’t and won’t allow it. This will be a 20 win team again. I’d be shocked if Luka had any interest in joining that.

It would be a brilliant move though. Perfect fit. Paying him for his prime age 27/28/29/30 seasons.

Reminder, free agency comes after the draft. If we get the #1 pick he may well see it as the perfect fit. A young team that is deep and in the east (also closer to home - those flights from DC to Europe are fast).

But - we need to be not terrible AND get the #1 pick. Yes, threading the needle but I could see it happening.

Seems unlikely. They have to remain in the bottom 5 to avoid any real risk of dropping outside the top 8 picks. Limits them to 20-25 wins at most.

How appealing is a 20-25 win Wizards team with this core+Dybantsa/Peterson?

I would say 25-30 would still do it and the core + the FRP would look pretty enticing (opinion of course). I see your point as well - there might be another east coast team that is closer and also has the cap space.

I can't see Luka coming here. No. Not at all.

However, I totally could see Austin Reaves being starting PG.

Tre Johnson, Bilal Coulibaly, and Kyshawn George or Cam Whitmore should all be entering their prime.
Bye bye Beal.

It’s probably at least a year too early, but I’d be tempted to go after Giddey.

The guy I would target would be LaMelo Ball ... maybe as early as the trade deadline where he could play a few games and get shut down to preserve to tank.

What would we have to give up to get them to trade LaMelo? He's a legit all-star, and potential franchise player,

I dunno, we may be able to take advantage of a depressed market for scoring guards that don't defend. I think alot also depends on how Charlotte does this year as well as his health. I wonder if he can eventually be acquired as basically a salaty dumo with small incentives?

Not this year Dat. We need to ensure we do everything possible to not lose our pick to the Knicks.

Oh I agree. He really needs a new situatiion though where he has some talent around him.

I don't know how our young guys are perceived as yet. It's really too early to make a determination right now. I also think the market has turned harshly against his archetype so his value could be potentially depressed with his injury history and underserved rep IMO.

Oh I definitely agree, which is why I was curious what he had in mind as of the cost....
He'd immediately become our best offensive player and we definitely wouldn't need him this year, as he is too good and highly risks blowing our pick in 26.....

Trae Young also has a player option. Hawks are set up well though and he probably wouldn't leave Atlanta to come here, unless Atlanta didn't want to pay him. We also have the Schlenk connection.

I'd take Ball too but we'd need to trade a lot to get him - Bub and Bilal and a couple future picks? Probably something like that. We'd still have Tre, George, Cam, and Sarr to form a pretty decent (assuming they all develop) starting 5. Plus Champagnie and a handful of other young guys.

Adding Luka for free would be a huge coup. Hopefully that's plan A. Not sure Silver would let it happen. DC is kind of a sleeping giant in terms of a fan base so maybe Silver and the black dragons at the league office would consider it. How cool would it be to win the lottery and add a guy like Luka in one off-season? Would almost make up for the Webber for Mitch Richmond trade and every other miserable milestone these past 40+ years.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

I get the sense that Lamelo's stock is dropping rapidly. If Charlotte has another sub-30 win season with Lamelo scoring inefficiently or missing a ton of games, I wouldn't be surprised if Charlotte moves him at a fairly low cost, just to get off of his contract.

I don't really care for Lamelo's style of play and he comes across as not-so-bright in interviews, which concerns me at the PG position. But I can at least see why Dat2U is targeting him as an interesting reclamation project. I think he might become very available, and he does have a lot of talent. He has an "it factor" that nobody on our roster currently has.

I'm hoping that we can land a better "it factor" guy in the 2026 draft, but if we don't, it may be desperation time to find a star before our tanking window closes. And Lamelo might be one of the few guys obtainable.

Not interested in Lamelo. He's a chucker that doesn't pressure the rim much.

Ball would not cost that much with his injury history. If he did, then hell no. I wouldn't pay it. You only go after Ball if Charlotte has given up on him and is basically trying to dump him while saving face.

I have no interest at all in Trae Young. I don't think you can win with him, but if you were to try, you would need to build a very specific type of defense to protect him. It would definitely not be the switch-everything style we are currently building. You would want an elite drop big like Gobert. I actually think Atlanta has finally put together a roster this year that may be pretty well-suited to protect Trae defensively. If they can't make it work, I wouldn't want the Wizards to try.
