Cleveland can’t match salary, Golden State could but they’d have to send out Draymond and I don’t think they’d do that tbh (would probably have to work out a Kuminga sign and trade too) Dallas is only interested in a buy like Cleveland as they’d have to give up too many pieces to match salary, New York could do it if he wants to go there. Miami can match salary the easiest by far without giving away key pieces, Denver can’t match salary, and San Antonio could match salary with Vassell Sochan and Barnes but I’m not sure they would considering they weren’t interested in KD either plus the probably want the ball in their young PGs and Wembys hands for development.

There’s not a ton of options if he doesn’t ask to be bought out tbh

I believe LeBron has a no-trade clause and I don't think most teams want to give up a ton of value for LeBron, so a trade is really unlikely.

It's hard to imagine the Lakers would just buy him out, as he'd just go to a contender and the Lakers would have to potentially face him.

I think he'll play the year out in LA and sign with one of the teams I mentioned the following year.

Honestly that’s the most common sense path here. He plays out the season as a Laker, Lakers get $$$ and Lebron keeps all the good will he has accumulated. Then for his last year he goes to the Cavs where they will cater to him.

Remember he has aspirations to own a team, he would have to be beyond an idiot moron to try to force a trade now especially to this team. It’s just the dog days of summer and this is a nothing burger to keep the NBA in the headlines.

That doesn’t matter when Kobe’s Laker career far exceeds Lebron’s Laker career

Championship-wise sure. But overall? I think LeBron has the edge. That said, MJ is still the GOAT.

Championships, stats, accolades all with Lakers. Lebron’s Mickey Mouse ring and cute little scoring record doesn’t hold a candle to any of Kobe’s Laker titles. I’m no Kobe or Lakers fan but There is no argument for Lebron’s manufactured 7 years over Kobe’s 20 with them

Yea no doubt. LeBron isn't a blue blood Laker anyway, Kobe fans who are for the most part Lifers in that fanbase have no reason to have any affinity for a mercenary.

Cavs make a ton of sense for LeBron. He can try to ride the wave to another championship in his hometown.

Go get him Cavs!

Noooo he makes all the sense in the world here. Go look at the Cavs contracts. They would need for him to be bought out for that to happen. Knicks too would also need to break up there core for it to happen.

you guys don’t think with Rich Paul’s pull that they won’t collaborate on a buyout or trade that makes sense. there’s no way LA makes the exit of a 40YO Goat and have that stain… there really is no point in making it messy & LA understands if Lebron wants to compete they are not going to get assets especially if he’s walking. I think they resolve it & Lakers do right by LBJ.

they were never going to get real value for him anyways - thats why they agreed on a NTC

Miami loved him and it was his safe haven as he rehabilitated his image. There's definitely a storyline to rekindle here but does he appreciate Miami like that though?

If he wants to play 3 years like he said maybe 2 years in Miami and then the final year in Cleveland to retire. I think he'd like to just go straight to Cleveland though the mentoring, championship and prodigal son storylines are too powerful.

In a lineup featuring Lebron, Jovic is completely redundant. Lebron would obviously be on-ball and any hope of Jovic developing into more of an on-ball playmaker would be cooked.

Between Bron, the guards, and Bam, Jovic would get relegated to spot up duties, per usual (not really developing)

Knowing Spo, Highsmith would be prioritized.

No need to complicate it for the sake of finding a way to.

LeBron is 41. Load manage him at around 33 mpg in regular season.

Niko can play 15 mpg without LeBron if that is really a concern (it's not) and ~10 mpg with LeBron. I think that will work plenty well for the player who has never created more than 25% of his own made field goals over his 3 year career and puts up over 6 3PA per 36 minutes.

Don't see why Jovic wouldn't function as a valued utility forward on a team with LeBron that also has Bam splitting 50-50 minutes between PF and C and Ware taking Center minutes.

The objective of the team fundamentally changes if Lebron is brought on board.

If the goal is to play a "utility forward" on a team that includes Lebron, the more likely option to be getting minutes is Highsmith as a 3nD, not a young player whose development hinges on the opportunity to play with the ball in his hands.

They'd both be useful and important. A NBA game consists of 240 minutes of individual player's contribution.

IMO you're drastically overstating the idea that Niko's functionality and development as a NBA player is exclusively tied to on-ball work. Yes, he provides value (and has potential to grow) as an onball facilitator. But he doesn't show sufficient promise as a creator of his own offense to be a high usage onball player exclusively for a good NBA team. Dribble-pass-shoot players that bring functional size always have value on any team--especially when they space the floor at the rate that Niko has proven to for the past 2 seasons.

This is a nothing burger of an issue.

Would feel like a fairytale ending like Wade… but for him, Cleveland is that fairy tale ending.

Hope we still have that allure for him.

He’s going to Dallas to reunite with Kyrie, AD, and Phil Handy.

Watch me get Flagg out of this somehow.

What do you value about the methodology that BBallIndex used to grade this defensive "stat"?

Yup, either w a buyout this year or next year, Ending the career where he started in his hometown makes the most sense. I think only Heat homers think the Miami ending is great for him.
