Re: Free Agency & Trades Thread 2 **NOW OPEN**
I just want to point out that we've probably had more posts & bafflingly heated discussions about Cam Whitmore than, like, guys we currently have on the team or actual trade targets we could add for a similarly reasonable cost.
Like if you want to take anything away from the Whitmore trade, it's that you never know what young player still on a rookie contract (2022-24; I doubt any 2025 rookies of note will be on the move for some time) available from a presumed playoff team/contender until you ask.

Bingo - but Whitmore isn’t nearly the player RJ is. RJ is the better scorer, playmaker, rebounder and defender.

Arguing about Cam vs Dick.....These 2 in terms of tiers of NBA players are in the exact same tier....Dick had way more opportunity since hes been drafted able play through mistakes since hes played for tanking or just bad teams....
This year will be Cams year to show what he can do since his playing time should go up and role should increase....
But the Dick vs Cam debate is kinda dumb atm since it comes down to preference since they both have flaws....Dicks defense will always be an issue and Cam will have to learn to play in a system....But in terms of talent they are both around the same level of talent....

Not a fan of Whitmore's game, in his mind he's a number 1-2 when he should be a defense first guy and pick his spots offensively. He doesn't have the highest BBIQ either. We'll see how it goes for him.

Restricted free agency is so trash.
Honestly, it amazes me that draft prospects don’t try to angle themselves to certain teams more aggressively like they used to. 4 years, then trapped in an artificially constrained market.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

backlash can be pretty harsh trying to do that as we saw with Ace Bailey

Qualifying offer has an inherent NTC so I doubt that

As it should. If players could choose their teams there would be no point in draft or restricted free agency. Miami and the Lakers would have every player. Raptors would be in the worst position in the league

I don’t think that is necessarily the case. We’d be probably in the bottom half for most players but I don’t think we’d be the worst place for prospects to go and for certain ones we might even be in the upper half of the league. Rookies have different criteria for prefering one destination over another than established free agents. Who can reasonably blame a prospect for not wanting to go to the Pelicans or the Kings given their track record. It can absolutely derail an entire career.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

The player can always waive the NTC. AFAIK.

If I recall he used to be terrible on D. Is that still the case?

he's more reckless and dives at people's legs now for loose ball, does that make him better?

Agree.
With NIL I think they should raise the draft age, but get rid of restricted free agency.

Rfa helps small market teams, and Raptors.
