Bradley doesn’t guarantee until 1/10, so absolutely no rush to waive him. Plus, if a trade popped up and we needed to aggregate salary, we could always include him, which might save us having to add in a Furphy or someone to make something legal.

No rush with respect to Bradley but what about Freeman and Peter. Without waiving Bradley, we only have one two-way spot for two players I hope we keep. The solution would seem to be giving a 16th standard contract. The 15 limit doesn't apply preseason.

Still no rush. Clearly there’s relationship work and communication with them and their agents. We own their rights, respectively. We don’t have to slot them into specific slots, as we could always sign them to Exhibit 10’s and then choose to assign them to either the two way or main roster in camp. And yeah, roster limits at 21 right now, so plenty of flexibility. They do need to eventually figure out who the 3 two ways will be, and who might make the main roster, but that doesn’t have to be done until opening night.

Understood, but unless we sign Freeman to something, there is a small risk that another team will put an offer on the table. No similar risk with Peter.

Sure. I’d say that chance is pretty infinitesimally small, though. But it’s not zero.

They would already be out of sign and trade range. If a trade doesn’t happen simultaneously as the signing, the contract is immediately voided.

Yeah,... I didn't mean an actual sign & trade,.... but if the contract or extension is signed within the values of a sign & trade, then the player would remain trade eligible without having a 6 month waiting period. If I understand that correctly?

That would matter when it comes to extensions, but Jackson reached free agency on July 1, so no extension was possible. At that point, any signing using his Bird Rights means he wasn’t trade eligible until December or January (if he got more than a 20% raise over his last year salary).

From Larry's CBA FAQ,...

101. When can't a player be traded? Can players be given "no-trade" clauses in their contract
In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:
For six months after signing a player to an extension that is over the limit (in terms of years, salary or raises) for an extend-and-trade transaction5 (see question number 95)

This is regarding the extend and trade provision which the newest CBA expanded to a total of 4 years total under contract and 120% raise (as opposed to the previous 3 years total and 105% raise). But again, Jackson hit free agency, so no extend and trade allowed no matter what he signed.

Of course,... I was missing the part under note 5,... 'This does not apply to rookie scale contracts, which can be extended without such limitations immediately after they are traded' - :o :(

This part pertains to players entering the 4th year of their contract and limited to extending before opening day of their 4th season. Specifically, we saw this with James Harden years ago when okc traded him to Houston right before the season started, and Houston immediately signed him to a rookie max extension, without requiring any sort of a waiting period.

Thanks mate. Appreciate you taking the time & making the effort to help me. :)

Of course! I love that the Pacers forum works hard to get these things right! Maybe it’s because we have some writers that really get the little things right here (CC with he gameplay and strategy and Tony East with the cap machinations and rules, etc)?
