I love how people are complaining. We didn't even get remotely the same amount of calls while they are slapping away... riding hips and playing WWE basketball... while still battling all their length. 20 FT to 43 FT.... and we lost by 3 points. Players were getting swarmed and pushed around on offense.. and they got the calls and not us.

but.... PENDA.... loving the guy. Physical style of play is impressive. defense.... I actually love his engagement as the free safety type of player... as he moves well and makes up ground. Turnovers going down the stretch but overall had a great game. +19

Jase Jase Jase.... continued doing things that people are were skeptical about translating. Now... just gotta get this all to translate to the NBA and he would be an integral part of the team for us in the future.

TDS is fine to me, he just had too big of a role for him...he was tasked with too much, in a smaller role I think he will contribute

A guy that lets the game come to him, takes good shots, and makes good decisions. Stop telling him to dominate the ball and be a go-to scorer, it isn't who he is.

The team only ever looked under control when Jase was doing the majority of the ball handing. This was a tough game against a lot of NBA talent who was super aggressive and fouling constantly, but for the second straight game Jase looked every bit the NBA player.

I see the vision with Panda. The tools are all there. Just needs to get more consistent and is another guy who is built to be a role player attempting to be a scorer. He will settle into an NBA role.

The rest of this roster is basically trash. And it is doing Jase, Panda, and TDS a huge disservice by not having a single serviceable point guard or big man. It's make the game so hard on those 3.

Wendell Moore and Alondis Williams did some nice things today, but I'm not sure I love anyone on this roster as a 2-way guy.

Finally, this Kelly guy is a big time stiff. Shoot him into the sun and start Skal, who is at least serviceable.

TDS should get the green light during Summer League games so he can practice shooting and other skills during game situations. You don't want players to only be one dimensional.

I mean, I guess, but it's never gonna be his role. He wasn't even a go to scorer in college. Better off running the ball through Jase more and letting TDS play off him.

100%. He was drafted because he's a role player.

He is like a Boris Diaw who decided to go to the gym. Dude is Mack truck with some finesse.
That's a great comp for him. Much better than Nic Batum who he's always compared to. He's much more physical like Diaw.

Kai???

The center before him was worse. I believe he was our summer leagues starter the season before Kai. Had stint for OKC iirc

He doesn't yet have anything close to Diaw's skillset and ability to be a point forward. People forget how ridiculously skilled Diaw was.

BTW, Jase is making me slowly into a believer during Summer League.

Dunno if that will carry over during regular season

This a testing ground for him. Go out there... do your best. He will be more of a play finisher in our lineups.

One of the reasons i loved getting Tyus for our bench is because he will potentially get the ducks in a row for easier points.

Tyus/AB/TDS/JI/Moe could be a well-balanced bench.

Not liking the Diaw comparison. If Diaw hit the gym, Diaw would have played his natural position coming into the NBA - as a guard. Boris is a genius with the ball, i think Penda gets the Diaw comparison just because of the body size.

But I don’t think they play the same, Penda is more of a SF/PF/C hybrid. Penda can bring down the ball but he cant process the game like Boris, imo.

Penda is more of a cross of Batum and Yabusele, imo.

Catching up now.

One small Jase quibble...

It feels like his actual ball handling skill is better than the confidence he has in his ball handling ability if that makes sense.

Only 1 turnover was impressive, with Toronto constantly pressuring. I think his one turnover was where he stepped out of bounds on a steal at the end of the game. They counted that as a possession, but it shouldn't have been.

Penda...9 points/14 rebounds/2 assists/3 steals/1 block with 5 TOs +19

Penda, it's early but he might be like a Suggs kind of player where you HAVE to play him.... He does too many of the little things to not play good minutes....

I hope Penda doesn't do this on a vet. They'll want to throw hands.

I agree but not picking up his team option could save us money

Well, he is the best player on the Summer League roster so I reckon coaches want him to be assertive. Will pay off down the road.

Yeah, it's not really about turnovers necessarily.

I just notice that Jase willingly gives the ball up both in terms of dribbling it up the floor and in the halfcourt more than you'd perhaps like to see out of a 6'1" guard.

Basically, he plays like a SG. But when I watch him actually use his dribble it certainly seems like he is capable of doing more. He just doesn't seem to seek it out.

Return to Orlando Magic
