He is supposed to play tomorrow. He was given the day off for the back to back. Their season ended like 10 days ago. It gave someone like Bridges and K. Brown a chance to get some playing time.

Who’s putting together the sunglasses and cigarette meme for Brad Stevens when he was asked about the teams center rotation?

Ie, “Hey Brad, you just lost your entire center rotation from last year, and are left with a bunch of unproven nobodies, how do you feel about the center position this year?”

Brad: “We’ll see” shades and lit smoke drop down and video cuts to Bassey dominating Las Vegas like he’s Shaq’s little cousin.

They sat him (and Norris) because it's a back to back.

Why the hell they scheduled back to backs in summer league, i have no idea.

Him and Bassey were alternating, subbing in and out for each other every few mins. Amari started the 4th quarter, Bassey subbed in a few mins later. Bassey probably would have subbed back in with like 3 or 4 mins left but it was a blowout (plus Bassey was playing well and in a rhythm out there) so they kept him in for an extra minute and then we cleared the bench and put our end of bench guys in, with it being a blowout.

Also, our rotations/lineups were a bit wonky today (Hugo and Norris sat out, for example) with it being the first night of a back to back.

We'll probably see more mins for Amari in tomorrow's game, plus Hugo and Norris back in there.

Good player imo

Celtics like bigs who can pass. And there's a void in that capacity that needs to be filled, with Kornet, KP and Al gone.

Charles Bassey was once again the team's best player. For anyone that missed it- his per 36 minute rebounding and blocks stats for the Spurs last season were both far better than any player on the Celtics. So these numbers he's putting up are not just due to summer level competition. Bassey goes a long way to solving the depth problems in the frontcourt. He just has to have a change of luck and stay healthy next season. It's hard to imagine that the Celtics won't sign him to a standard contract,

Scheierman had a well-rounded game except for the three pointer, but that he can do.

Williams looked a step slow, and was a bit disappointing except when positioned as the high post point center. Those moments were interesting.

Shulga has a very narrow path to the NBA. His body limits him to point guard, and that's where he needs to channel his improvement. He has great hands on D. He and Wong completely took Kolek out of the game. His three pointer needs to become deadly for him to overcome his physical limitations.

Lofton is a big man held back by guard height. If he had less weight, he'd soar. There's so much feel in his game, but his size is getting in his way, though he does use it to his advantage as well. He's a fascinating mix of talent and limitation.

Cs should sign Bassey.
He's better than Q and X.

Amari is a project.
Maybe in 2-3 years he'll be a legit NBA player.

But other than passing, nothing really stands out.

He's not a rim protector, not showing signs he's a great rebounder, and is limited offensively.

Baylor's not shooting well, but he's having an impact because of all the other stuff he does.

Walsh is a little better compared to last year, but I don't know if that's enough to be in the rotation.

Hugo might end up ahead of Walsh in the pecking order.

Yeah, looks bad, but he's a shooter, so it's just a matter of time.

The Celtics will either sign Bassey soon, or someone else will.

Himmelsbach:

Bassey has been slowed by injuries during his four-year NBA career, but also has shown he can be a capable contributor at the highest level when healthy. Bassey said he is fully healthy, and a league source said he has piqued the interest of several teams this week.

“I think I’m auditioning for the rest of the NBA, and it’s also a good opportunity for me to be a Celtic,” Bassey said.

the biggest disappointment with amari is his motor.

the guy moves way too slow and doesn't play with any sense of urgency -- he also doesn't do anything smooth enough to counteract the sense that he mostly just kinda floats around on the floor and doesn't protect the rim well at all.

the only good skill he's shown so far is passing which won't be enough to keep him on the floor when people can score on him at the rim at will.

Amari is a project.

So no need to think about him right now.

In 2-3 years we'll know more if he's legit or not.

But you're right, kinda just floats around.

Yeah, looks bad, but he's a shooter, so it's just a matter of time.

I'm kind of starting to doubt Baylor's shooting ability. Like I don't think he's a bad shooter. I think he can shoot. But I'm starting to wonder about how good of a shooter he actually is:

2025 summer league, 2 games: 8/29 (27.6%) from 3
24-25 NBA season, 31 games: 26/82 (31.7%) from 3
24-25 preseason, 5 games: 3/17 (17.6%) from 3
2024 summer league, 5 games: 10/34 (29.4%) from 3
Total, 43 games: 47/162 (29.0%) from 3

And he's 24 years old..a guy that old isn't likely to get a whole lot better.

Like he might just end up being an average shooter, at best. And he might not even end up getting there (league average is 36%, of course).

He shot better in the g league last year but as I'm sure we know, the G league is known for inflated offensive stats and very little defense being played.

Yea, and he's 24 right now but turns 25 in September...
Also, he takes some really crap shots. If he could refine his shot attempts and just stop taking the really bad attempts, just doing so, would make his percentages better. He truly takes some shots that I'd estimate as 15% chancers and he shoots 0% on those.

It's like the Lonnie Walker situation from last year.

Only difference is, Walker didn't play summer league last year because he was too good.

Yup..and I think that (taking some crap shots) is partly because he is poor driver. Like has very little driving ability so if he has the ball and puts it on the floor, it's likely just 1 dribble and then into a 3. Because he (for the most part) can't do anything else off the dribble besides that..\

And of course, he is limited as a defender too.

I'm starting to be higher on Hugo and even Walsh..they play both ends of the floor. They're younger. Hugo with his huge hands and the way he effortlessly glides around out there, making really fast and fluid..both of them wreak havoc on both ends, playing hard. Walsh with his 7'2" wingspan.

If they are shooting the ball roughly as good as Baylor (or better) than I think you play Hugo and Walsh because again, they're younger and they play both ends of the floor. And they can drive the ball on offense, they're better rebounders..

Bassey can play a bit…
Williams ran the court game 1 game 2 suck
Shulga is dreadful
Walsh 8 or 9 fouls = bust
BS sold it for me today = bust
Lofton i like, undersized with no jump shot = Europe

Bassey should stop playing summer league and sign a contract. Waive Davidson as it looks like the plans are he isn't gonna be here (too bad, but better situations for him on other teams).
