What would he gain by participating? He's already been there twice and he hasn't been super impressive as we've already seen summer league isn't particularly good for someone with his game. If he kills it, he's supposed to. But if he is mediocre, it kills his confidence. I don't know what reason there would possibly be for him to play another summer league when most 3rd year players worth a damn typically don't play it. For a good reason. If he needs reps, he needs to get it somewhere else.

I doubt you watch basketball anymore if you truly think this lol.

I watched Battle when he was Gradey’s age in college and he hasn’t gotten any better at defense since then lol

He’s not a player worth caring about in any respect

I don't give a crap what he was in college lol. Battle has shown more defensively in the 2 summer league games than Gradey has in his NBA career.

Now that doesnt mean Gradey will remain that way, he just has LONG strides to make to get there. Gradey is the better prospect for a reason.

Battle hasn’t shown anything defensively other than that he couldn’t play it before he was drafted, after he was drafted and that he can’t play it now

I would argue that’s the case for Gradey Dick too but unlike Battle he’s still only 21 and actually got NBA athleticism so there’s room to grow there

That’s another reason (beyond the fact that he’s a far better offensive player) that it would be insane to give Battle minutes over Dick in any scenario

I think the more realistic olquestion for Gradey is whether he will get over/under 20 MPG lol.

I really hope he does because that'll mean he made great strides.

With BI on the team, I think he could be the second option. I think people are expecting too much from BI this year.

2nd option? And you think people are expecting too much from BI who is an established player in his prime?

Lets just hope Gradey can lead the bench unit in scoring lol

Well, I doubt RJ makes it the distance. Barnes, maybe 20+. BI if healthy is around 24ppg, but he's been out a year. That leaves Dick.

i legit hate listening to him, he thinks hes the comedy relief but hes not funny and kills any small amount of credibility the show has

They should take him off air and get someone else. He's set up some great content as a producer. They're the only ones who have a Chomche interview. They've also got Shead and a few others coming up. The Bobby one was really well done too.

ye the content is actually decent, he does a good job behind the scenes..thats where he should stay. seems like he enjoys front of camera too much.

Holy crap. That changes a lot then. I don’t expect him to do much then just get into shape.

ye, i think even 6 weeks ago he was banged up and only worked out for a few teams because of it. all things being considered he looked really good.

This team is in win now mode? lol

Their ceiling this year is like 43 wins

Yes is that news to you? The Brandon Ingram trade and resigning of Jak made that pretty clear.

Let alone the fact that the front office has been saying they are trying to compete. It’s pretty clear they are done rebuilding.

Also pls name me 3 players who have averaged 40% from 3 that are scrubs lol

They are a mid 40s win team at best, that’s not a “win now” team

And developing young talent better remain a primary goal for this organization this year. If it isn’t, the treadmill is exactly where they will stay

Jalen Harris also averaged 47% from 3 in 13 MPG for the Raptors 4 years ago, the guy is playing for the Winnipeg Sea Bears right now. It’s not that unusual

No it doesnt... there's IQ and even Poeltl simply because he'll play around 30MPG.

This is the most important news today.

We are seeing rusty, lower cardio, CMB.

Good to know.

Totally agree. It makes his performance even more impressive and explains why he was looking better as the game went on. Guess its safe to call him a bonafide superstar now :)

IQ's not there. That's why his contract sucks.

Jeebus MT, give it a rest. The ~45 win Raptors from 2014 to 2016 were in "win now" mode. Then in 2016 and 2017 they added Pascal, Fred and OG (and Poeltl with the Knicks pick). Why would you assume this is the final form for this team?

If you don't want it to be the final form for this team, my suggestion would be that you play guys like Gradey Dick over Jamison Battle, yeah

Trying to maximize wins on a 40ish win ceiling team at the expense of player development is absurd

I don't think Battle is a better player then Dick but he might be a better fit for the role available for the team. Dick has way more potential but Dick needs to be more consistent with his shooting. If he doesn't end up being a 40% three point shooter or atleast a high 30s' on high volume then he might be the guy who loses out in the minutes crunch. If Agbaji continues to hit 40% from 3 and Walter continues to shoot 40% post allstart break after dealing with a shoulder injury on his shooting side at start of year they might be better options. If that happens and Dick continues to shoot 35% then he becomes a 5-10 min guy who needs to come in and hit shots right away. We already know Battle can come in and hit shots cold off the bench, he doesn't need a bunch of shots to get his shooting rhythm. Dick has shown flashes offensively but year 3 is do or die for him because this team has so much depth at the wing position

Rookie scale VS whatver. He's a better asset.

The Raptors' Vegas over/under right now on wins is 34.5

Suffice it to say, we're not playing Jamison Battle over 21 year old lottery pick Gradey Dick to try to get more wins (and it wouldn't accomplish that anyway)

Watching these Hansen yang highlights and knowing how they use poeltl offensively im surprised they didn’t try to get another pick to go after this guy.
