Counting their three two-way players, the Raptors summer league team has 10 of their 18 roster slots on it.

The Magic's SL roster has 4 of 16.

How are people gauging that Tristan was trash or doesn't belong here off of this game? I get having your doubts, but this wasn't the game to have them in my eyes... Very odd I didn't think he was that bad aside from some turnovers... Weird

Personally I would have liked to see more composure, I didn't like the decision making and errors. He also seems to play small even against summer league guys, which is fine as it just confirms he's a wing, but he doesn't have the agility of a wing. Just things that turn me off. An eyeball test is always more art than science and I don't really love what I'm seeing from TDS on the intangibles front. I do like the spot up shooting. He's just a guy though is my read.

Not liking the Diaw comparison. If Diaw hit the gym, Diaw would have played his natural position coming into the NBA - as a guard. Boris is a genius with the ball, i think Penda gets the Diaw comparison just because of the body size.

But I don’t think they play the same, Penda is more of a SF/PF/C hybrid. Penda can bring down the ball but he cant process the game like Boris, imo.

Penda is more of a cross of Batum and Yabusele, imo.

Not talking about drafted Diaw who was a PG/SG prospect. Talking about the type of player he was when he was with SA, deep into his career. Valuable do it all type swiss knife type as a PF. Diaw played for some time with a beer belly.
diaw is still a better processor than penda. Maybe in the future, but right now, i think he is more of batum as a playmaker.

Anyway, anyone else notice that we ran the defensive scheme we ran towards the end of the season? With the center going out to perimeter to defend and in effect, Penda (like Paolo did), was the one tasked to rebound. Just noticed we ran some defensive schemes like last season. This lead to lesser rebounds for WCJ last year too when we ran that scheme.

Hard not to be pretty pleased with the rookies through two summer league games...

Noah Penda has 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and is +23 in 56 minutes.

Jase Richardson is averaging 16.5 PPG on a .722 TS% with a 2.5 to 1 AST/TOV ratio and is +14 in 47 minutes.

Toronto hacked the whole 1st half and barely got called for it my goodness. At one point it was a hand check followed by a push and nothing.

Penda will be hella solid, Jase is a bonified stud already. TDS is the definition of role player and asking him to handle the ball a lot won’t be pretty.

Centers were terrible and I said it last game but 55 is straight cheeks. How he’s one of our 2way players is laughable.

TDS got some of the worst treatment as well.... Overly smothered and no calls. He's still getting his bearings.... But I know he will be solid to great playing off of others and being play finisher and "connective tissue" at the minimum

Felt the same way, he just had too much on his plate and not used to that much usage.... They cut to him on the bench and he was exhausted..... He got sloppy at the end there but 6-13 fg.....3-7 from range 43%.... 100% from free throw..... 3 stocks.... What kills it is the 6 turnovers and some of them were bad but.... He was fine.... Not trash.... Not a bum

Question.. if his neck was two inches longer how tall would he be?

The height thing is way overblown because of his body build. He doesn't look or play 6'1".. kid just has no neck.

Yeah 6'6 wingspan plus near 40 inch vert, height issue was definitely overblown. Has 3 blocks in two games in summer league including a block on Raynaud. The true small non defenders in the NBA struggle to get 3 blocks in an entire year, he was never going to be that bad on defense. Obviously that is an oversimplified way of looking at it, but his actual defense has also been fine thus far. And was in college as well.

The more I see him the more it feels Jase is going outperform that draft position. He has the scoring touch/skill, has a tremendous ability to finish in traffic, and plays smart & composed. We got a player.

At the very least a high end 6th man. He doesn't really make mistakes. Only two turnovers in two games. There is going to be some healthy competition in the back court from training camp.

Every team gets three two-way spots. The Magic currently have one of the three filled by Ethan Thompson. Two spots still open.

Yeah I knew there are three spots. I thought I had heard we filled another spot, but obviously I was wrong.

I might be wrong on this one but I'm wild guessing that if his neck was two inches longer, he would be two inches taller.

He is like a Boris Diaw who decided to go to the gym. Dude is Mack truck with some finesse.

Lol, you might be too young to remember how athletic Boris was when he entered the league

I tuned in Wizards vs Nets, because both teams have so many future NBA players and yea... It's just not worth watching. Or at least not worth drawing conclusions, because it's misleading as hell.

Alex Sarr just turned 20, if finished player is beef burger, Sarr was so raw that he was still just walking calf. Bub is 19.

And yea... nba practices, playing vs elite players for a year, having coaches telling you what to do, and being coachable really shows.

Sarr with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 8 blocks in 29 min.
Bub 17 points on 7 shots
Kyshawn sucked, efficiency vise, but was on quadra-double-watch.

Tbh most interesting storyline from SL to me is Cody Williams. He had historically bad rookie year, he is still 20, his 3-shot still is way off,but in SL he showed some flashes of life. Can he be 80% of player his brother is?

Single game +/- yeah, but outside of TDS the rest of this roster is pretty horrific. They played well against decent competition, which is all I could ask for.

Nate Santos is slow and has the slowest reactions I have ever seen on defense. I don't know how they couldn't see that when I saw it in like 2 minutes of tape, but they drafted Penda and Jase so I'm not mad... just slightly confused.

Both certainly look like NBA level prospects. Always critical to see rookies dominating in the summer league to get that vibe.

In particular, I have been pleasantly surprised with Penda. He is playing well in his allocated role.

Conclusion: I see very little/no G-league time for the rookies this year!

...

As to da Silva, he is supposed to be the leader in the Summer league. Come season time, he will defer. I cannot be at all concerned with his ball usage, as his role from October will not resemble what he is doing in July.

Kelley had a real chance to earn a two-way contract. Game one was promising; game-2, not so much.
