Kyshawn didn’t shoot well…but he had 9rebs, 6assists & 5 steals. He really is a joy to watch defensively…just so instinctive and disruptive on that end of the floor.

I know it's frustrating watching young guys playing soft or scared but these are all 3-4 year projects no matter where they were taken. All needed to put on muscle, improve their shots, get better awareness and generally need the game to slow down for them. Main issue with so many raw but talented guys is deciding who to invest in and clear playing time for. It's fine to have the cream rise to the top over a season or two but then you have to commit so the right guy is prioritized. Deciding who those right guys are and when to prioritize them will dictate whether Dawkins succeeds or not.

I get some Tatum vibes from Riley. He just seems the type that will show up to SL next season up 10 lbs of muscle with more strength and an improved handle. Rinse and repeat and by his 3rd season will be a beast. Maybe it's not fair since they still have the rest of the summer to do so but I expected to see this from the other young guys entering their 2nd SL and besides Sarr, none of them look like they have.

A few things I find encouraging about Sarrs game.

1) he looks to control blocks. Several times he got his own rebound blocking shots. Often times shot blockers try for the emphatic rejection and spike the ball. I find this just opens things up for easy put backs for the other team. Sarrs skilled enough to block the shot, grab the board, and push the break.

2) his first instinct is to pass from the high post to the wings, and generally, for open three point attempts. Also saw him hit a nice back door bounce pass to keep the ball popping. Shows me high IQ.

3) I like the way he uses his speed / handles to take it to the cup when he gets it. At this point his attempts are awkward, but give it a year or two with increased bulk, and they’ll be strong high success attempts.

They haven’t started forcing him to his right yet, but Jase has been a baller, he had many fans here.

Shut Sarr down. He’s graduated from summer league. Riley showed his skill. Needs time to develop. AJ was the disappointment. He’s not very good at basketball. Can’t dribble, shoot or pass. The athleticism is outstanding, needs to shed on the skills.

Sarr will continue to improve. These soft floaters around the rim are not good shots. Contrast that to how George attacked Maluach. He put his shoulder into him and finished. Sarr needs to start going up strong and forcing the issue. Once he does that, his finishing will improve and he will go to the free throw line more. Also, yesterday Sarr flashed DPOY potential. He can switch onto wings and guards, but he is at his best being a help side defender. Using his length, foot speed and wingspan to erase shots. He still has a long way to go but having capable players around him will help to define his role.

It's now clear what he has to work on. Finishing stronger, aggressively rebounding and operating as the role man in the PnR. He does those three things, and he'll be an all-star.

Kyshawn had a nice all around game but if we're going to call out other players he also needs to be called out. 4/16 when your other teammates are shooting well is unacceptable. Riley was 5/6. Tre was 7/11. Bub was 5/7. Kyshawn doesn't generate enough great looks to warrant shooting on average 17 shots a game. If he has the hot hand, fire away, but if not he needs to be a connector. Finding the open man, rebounding the ball, getting steals. That's what winning basketball looks like.

This is a good point that should be remembered. The Wizards players are incredibly young. I think Tre Johnson has skewed our perspective on what these guys should be capable of.

Tre's skill level really jumps off the screen relative to everyone else on the court in summer league.

There is nothing like a young talented rookie to energize the fanbase. Trotting out CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton to eat up shots while we have Tre Johnson on the bench collecting dust is untenable. Tre Johnson doesn't need a vet to guide him.
