Is this just summer league vibes or do people see him as a real rotation option?

Bassey has been impressive with his play primarily rebounding which the Celtics have needed for years. Given the Celtics big man situation he should easily be the Celtics 3rd center behind Queta and Garza. I don't think it happens because Stevens doesn't want to necessarily win. Probably go with A Williams who really doesn't look ready but is an easy tank commander

Well, prior to our 1st summer league game a few days ago, there was basically zero chatter on here or anywhere about Bassey..no rumors about him possibly signing with any of the 30 NBA teams.

Free agents began signing with teams on June 14 (Steven Adams resigned with Houston that day). Our first SL game was July 11. That's 27 days Bassey was sitting there as a FA, there for the taking for all 30 NBA teams yet there wasn't a peep about him by any reporter, any scout, any media outlet, any blogger..so that should give you your answer.

Even after these 2 SL games he's played, there's still not really any reports about any real interest any NBA team has in signing him to a guaranteed contract.

I think that's because most people consider him Injury-prone, considering that he had 2 Season Ending Injuries.

The irony with most of these cap friendly contracts is the short shelf life. It can go from an asset to a liability in the next contract.

True, maybe we should deal pritchard before his next contract, if we have dame at min a few years with white we should be ok

That would be tough to do not knowing how Lillard rehab was going and they would still need another talented guard to replace Jrue. It feels like Simons is gone because of what he would be looking for too much in his next contract.

Bassey is 24, Holmes is 31. And Bassey hasn't faced domestic violence charges or marijuana charges.

Easy choice - Bassey.

Question is, will we free up a roster spot somehow for one of them?

That’s prob more a statement on journalism than anything else.

That said he’s still 3rd/4th/5th string potential until proven otherwise.

I have to admit, I find it kind of strange Brad Stevens doesn't just go and give Al Horford a 2 year deal worth about $5-6 million annually and deal with the 2nd apron issues during the season and at the mid-season trade deadline. Seems like there is a lot more to this story that we don't know yet.

Brad Stevens keeps saying the Celtics definitely want him back but it doesn't seem that way. I think we will find out more about this scenario later.

Al was considering retirement this summer - he still might retire. So there's a chance that if he does play this season, it'll be his last one. I'm sure he just wants to go to a team where he'll have a better chance at competing for another ring. And he knows with us trading KP/Jrue and Tatum's injury, that ain't happening this season in Boston.

Plus, maybe some other team like GS will offer him more $ than Boston can, especially given our cap/apron constraints.

While it might seem easy to just say "oh, just sign him to a contract we can't afford to pay..no big deal, we'll figure out this apron still during the season" I don't think teams actually think that way.

And why go through all that trouble, jump through hoops and hope/pray that we'll be able to trim salary mid-season to sign a 39 year old big during a season we aren't going to compete for a title? Mine as well just develop our young guys..

Totally agree other than if they were keeping Horford over 2 years with the expectation he will be anything close to what he's been, just skip Minot altogether is a no brainer imo. So whatever has been going on the FO has been in the loop for awhile, that's my thought.

Maybe either he or the team doesn't think he's got that much time left, idk.

Just saying, we don't know the full story. Maybe later.
