He played 11 games in the Pacers playoff run and averaged 7 mpg. Four of those games were in the ECF (9+ mpg) and three were in the Finals (7+mpg). This is the exact type of backup center the Cavs have needed when Allen starts to get worn down in the playoffs. If the Pacers are foolish enough to cut him loose after picking up his option, Altman needs to jump on it.
Heck the Cavs need a backup physical big to bring in regardless.
He has an entire career of just sitting on the bench.
I'm fine with giving him a non-guaranteed deal if/when the Pacers cut him. He has to be more playable than Tristan Kardashian.
Heck, I'd rather have DeAndre Jordan over either of them though, tbh.
Bradley is 27. DAJ is 36 and washed.
We got Damian Jones when he was 27, we see how that turned out.
Bradley is on the fringe of the NBA... Prior to signing with the Pacers he played in the G league for 2 years.

Tristan Enaruna really aiming for that final 2-way slot.

Any word on why Travers isn't at Summer League? We might have two spots open.

Travers already signed his 2-way deal.
I'm not sure why he's not in Vegas but i think typically you only give guys 2 or 3 summers. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule but since he participated in 2022, 2023, and 2024, probably no real need to see him in 2025 as well.

It might be that Niang was going to start just so the Cavs could get a thorough look at him. Porter/Tyson/Niang/Tomlin/Omier wouldn't leave Travers a starting role and he might not have wanted to take a bench role.

Travers is not an NBA player. They should've cut the cord.

Gave Bates 2 seasons on a 2way and cut him free. Gave Brobley 2 seasons on a 2way and cut him free. Gave Pete Nance less than a year and cut him free.
I have yet to see the Cavs successfully use their 2way slots to develop guys, since they were introduced 8 years ago.

They can cut Travers at any point, two-ways are not guaranteed and even if they were, they don't come with a cap hit.
The Cavs had Wade on a two-way and turned him into a rostered player. Same with Lamar Stevens. Same with Craig Porter Jr. Three two-way guys becoming NBA rostered players is reasonably good.
It is not as if Bates, Isaiah Mobley, or Pete Nance have landed on their feet elsewhere. They're not really NBA talents. You could argue they were marketing acquisitions.

I forgot about Wade, i thought he was before 2ways for some reason but yes, solid example, 1 full season on a 2way before signing his standard deal.toooskies wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:I am sure they will in 2026.jbk1234 wrote:

I don't think Stevens is very good at basketball but technically he counts. Converted during his first season on a 2way.
Idk if i can count CPJ because people on here, maybe even you said that was the plan with him all along. We just never fill spot 15, so we carried him in a 2way slot for a couple months until his prorated deal didn't push us into the tax.

I'd actually be interested in how many players on two-way deals who don't break after or during their first season actually stay in the league.

Looks like Caruso signed as a 2way player in July of 2017 and was not converted to a standard deal until July of 2019.jbk1234 wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:I forgot about Wade, i thought he was before 2ways for some reason but yes, solid example, 1 full season on a 2way before signing his standard deal.toooskies wrote:They can cut Travers at any point, two-ways are not guaranteed and even if they were, they don't come with a cap hit.

Our guy Max Strus may technically count. Played on a Two-way with the Bulls in 2019-20 and the following season played on a two-way with the Heat, 2020-21. So not 2 years with the same team but 2 years of 2way deals before getting a standard contract. He actually technically signed a two way with the Celtics too but they waived him before the season started.
Chris Boucher may technically count too. Signed a 2way with the Warriors in 2017, won a ring, waived at the end of the season. Signed a 2way with the Raptors then converted half-way through the season, won a 2nd ring. So 1.5 seasons on a 2way but between 2 teams.

I guess I just don't see a single skill that Travers has that's going to allow him to stick in the NBA. He doesn't possess the necessary athleticism. He's not a shooter. While he's solid as far as technique or fundamentals go, it has yet to translate defensively or the boards. Even his transition game went away during NBA minutes when the defenders had the speed or length to recover.
I guess I just don't see the hoped for gain. I'm not seeing flashes. I'm seeing a guy who would have to learn to shoot like Kyle Korver, or at least Sam Merrill to make it in the NBA.

I don't notice many players winning on D, but I haven't noticed Tomlin struggling on D other than that he's not ready to be defending bigger C's.
He's a skinny guy with a strong upper body so not much of a base I imagine.
Niang does look promising on D and doesn't look completely lost/raw on O, but is he consistently winning? *shrugs*

Fun to see the Cavs netted an $11 million trade exception from the Okoro/Ball deal. I don’t expect them to utilize it, but, gives the imagination something to play with.

How did that actually happen BTW? Did we have an old trade exception that Ball fit into, or is there an obscure league rule at play here? Are we sure it's not a typo and it's a $1M trade exception?
Regardless of how we got it, it's practically useless unless we do something like trade a player for expirings (without generating a TE in that deal) to get out of the 2nd apron NEXT year, then get back up to the 2nd apron limit at the very start of next league year with the TE.

Apparently it was generated because Lonzo's salary was being paid by insurance, so the Bulls needed to absorb Okoro's salary using one of their trade exceptions which generated a new one for us.
Thanks to the fine print which apparently says a second apron team cannot use a trade exception generated in the previous year, we might actually be able to use this one or even just a part of it - if we're willing to dive deeper in to luxury tax. So we may have preserved the Ty Jerome salary slot by pulling this off, but with a lot more optionality on how we proceed and of course the ever confusing fine print of the CBA.
What we can't do is use the TPE to pay a bought out player, so, for instance if LeBron is bought out before the season starts, we could actually sign him, but just for the minimum.
