I agree with your position against such 1-dimensional players.

But...um...our team just gave 3yrs/48M to Duncan Robinson.

Just saying.

.

Giving a contract like that out to an elite shooter, which is practically MLE money nowadays, is far less damaging than drafting one with the #3 pick hoping that he becomes a player like that with some more playmaking chops.

It's not even a real MLE contract. It's full price (16.8 million) the 1st year and 2 million guaranteed year 2. No guarantees year 3. People really need to understand and treat this as a 1 year deal. Unless Robinson is really special for us there's no way he plays for us years 2 and 3.

Also, we traded away Simone's contract of 8.3 million in the deal. Given that Fontecchio was entrenched on the bench (providing 0 value to us) that means we are really paying 10.5 million additionally for 1 year of Robinson. Only 2 million of that even counts against our cap past this year.

Duncan robinson is one dimensional but he can play off the ball and he's a guy the defense has to keep track of. We've seen what it looks like when teams can just double team Cade consequence-free the second he dribbles due to lack of spacing.

I'm glad to see that a vet with basically a one-year contract is getting acquainted with his new team at Summer League.

I wasn't complaining about the contract btw, I was actually agreeing with what you're saying that it's a low risk contract compared to blowing the 3rd overall pick on a shooting specialist in Sheppard.

Yup. My comment was more affirming that / responding to flow. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
