One of those have to see him play types as I agree O box scores don't paint a good picture so far. I'd say they rather paint an incomplete picture.

I knew people would focus on the couple of good plays and ignore the rest of the game. Hard not to when the announcers were glazing him non-stop after those plays but then were conveniently quiet the remaining 3/4 of the game while Flagg was putting up 31 points. He's certainly gifted and has the makings of a good defender but "beast" after that game is getting carried away.

Check what CF shot when guarded directly by Bryant and get back to us.

I mean, I actually watched the game. In this highlight video alone Flagg scores on Carter directly 4 different times. Another time he beats him down the floor in transition and in another Carter threatens a double that Flagg splits. Like I said, 1-2 times he guarded him well in the very beginning of the game and then Flagg proceeded to score at will whether Carter was on him, in the vicinity or someone else had him. I'm a fan but it's clear the false narrative that he's some shutdown defender is already being promoted despite the facts

That Flagg pull-up was looking like a nasty weapon.

Is 8 blocks summer league record? I have listened to Hoops collective, and I believe they said Berringer getting 7 blocks the other day tied Summer league record (predates Sarr game, also, all best shotblockers are now French...).

Yes it is. One of his blocks last night was really impressive. Dude he was guarding had a nice spin move to get open under the basket, yet Sarr still swatted it tf outta there. I don’t know how many people in the league can make that play.

Anybody impressed with da Dilva? I was watching him warm up and he's got a nice handle for his size and was knocking down everything which carried over when the game started. Think he can help Orlando's offense if given a bigger role.

Impressed? Not particularly. He’s older and this is exactly how he should be playing against this level of competition.

Still ecstatic and he has shown obvious and expected growth. He and Black are going to be a huge pieces off the bench for the Magic.

However, I AM impressed with Jase. Extremely efficient, not a complete defensive liability and just knows how to play and doesn’t let his small stature affect him.

I’m hoping Orlando uses him more like Brunson (as the lead PG, but it seems as they’re currently using him like Izzo used him in Michigan).

It's one of the least valuable archetypes. Pure shooters who don't do anything on ball and don't play defense. He's also not really a movement shooter.

I'm with you though. The kid is a gamer and was UK's best player (at times) last season. I like him a lot

11 teams have not lost yet. Pretty neat.

and of those, six 2-0 teams play today, Hawks, Spurs, Hornets, Kings, Clippers, Celtics.

tomorrow, DET/MIN play both are 2-0.
Cheers

It's a lot easier to be a great defender when you're counted on for absolutely nothing offensively. And nothing is what Carter provided.

I can't imagine the amount of great defenders we'd see if their team was like "you just have to defend. Don't worry about offense. Just shoot if you're wide open."

I think 2 things can be true at once.

1. Bryant has elite defensive tools. Big, strong, athletic wing who doesn’t lack any kind of effort on the defensive end. Dude is going to be a beast on that end.

2. Wouldn’t put too much stock in 1 preseason game. Especially when Flagg’s teammates were a zero on offense (the rest of the starters went 4-23 shooting). Flagg and Bryant faced off twice last year. Flagg arguably had his 2nd best game of the season with Bryant being his primary defender.

But ya if I was a Spurs fanfan, I’d be beyond excited with what they did in this draft. You got the clear #2 guy in this class in Harper. And a raw, but a guy in Bryant that can turn into an Aaron Gordon kind of player. That’s a HR draft in my opinion.

And he'll be wide open a-plenty so he'll get tons of reps. But the question was about Carter's D, about it being overplayed even as Flagg's O was praised, rightly for the most part. So yeah we're excited about a true SF with great measurements and an even better motor with solid BBIQ doing well against the top prospect in the draft, and others before him. Preventing scoring adds to the final result, too.

And it does not follow that anyone who is not relied on to score will then be a great defender.
