1. He has OG/Kawhi level high IQ, fast hands and speedy deflections
2.like someone said, once he establishes himself as a defender, he won't get many foul calls like Dyson Daniels etc.

Masai drafts another gem. If he just spent the last 3-4 years stockpiling prospects instead of trading picks, we'd be in great shape and he'd still be employed.

Masai was easily a top-3 drafting GM. Hopefully we decide to keep Dan and he can continue the tradition. All this talk of hiring a player agent has me worried. Those guys are salespeople. They can't identify NBA talent if their lives depended on it.

This kid is a defensive gem. I think he'll be a difference maker on that end in his rookie year. His hands and IQ have the potential to be generational. His anticipation of where the offensive player is going to expose the ball is elite. Can't wait to watch him this season

His ability to snatch passes directly off the man he is guarding is actually insane and legit is only matched by Kawhi. You don’t see this kinds of plays too often and he did it twice in 23 mins in his first game in 1.5 months. He pops on film too.

I know it’s just one game in SL but you just know he’s gonna be good.

Lakers under Rob Pelinka signed undrafted players like Austin Reaves and Alex Caruso.

Leon Rose identified OG Anunoby as a perfect piece for NY and traded two core players in IQ and RJ to make it happen. Traded their own picks for draft picks like Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride.

I think most of the time these types think big picture and bring in franchise talent, but they know how identify future talent. More importantly, they understand market value of the players and how to sell the players on your team. Like, the Lakers getting two starters in Caruso and Reaves who forced their way to LA through the draft process, which was likely through Pelinka.

I like the guys we drafted in 2025 because they work hard, but without Masai we don't seem connected enough to take the next step.

He was not fired because of the team lol it was purely financial. Ed wanted him gone after the championship lol

Yeah it goes way back I remember. It’s weird. There were reports years ago they met and didn’t get along. Raptors being a dreadful team the past couple of seasons gave them the excuse needed before he got to see them turn it around this upcoming season.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Yeup they had to do it now, weak east and the raps make like the 2nd round with 48+ wins and not bringing him back would've looked bad optics wise. Firing him after we got kinda hosed in the lotto after tanking gives them an out. Even though they said "love the team love the direction" at the Masai is fired press conference lmao and kept his entire staff

From watching his tape predraft, the first thing that pops off is that he just knows how to play, he's just a good basketball player. He understands the game and plays it at a high level at both ends. The shot was the only knock but it is a pretty big one. If he gets to a point where he's comfortable letting it go and making some at a respectable clip, we'll have ourselves a special one.

For a player like that if he can establish a mid range, like Antonio Davis or Chris Bosh he'll be just fine offensively. Bosh eventually started shooting the three, but he was pretty automatic from anywhere below the 3 point line and it did take him some work.

Lots to see for now, intrigued to see he will attack the bigger players down low during the season. Combination of footwork, strength, quickness, fakes etc.

Ed Davis from 2010 was super creative around the basket like that.

Wow. Just wow. I watched the entire game, but seeing it in highlight form like this just makes it even better. He’s gonna be something special on that end for sure

240 and 7'1 arms is not small and yet he moves his feet and has shockingly good agility and quickness for his big thick frame

he will defend on perimeter with his quickness.....and yet strong and big enough to bang with the big boys inside to stop back downs, box out for boards, and contest shots.....he has more defensive potential than scottie imo with dpoy potential

Too much credit is given to Masai when it comes to drafting....sure he deserves his flowers for building the foundation but the team of 10+ people that are involved in the scouting process are still here. I would be worried if a new president comes in and cleans house.

And who do you think put together the team of people involved in the scouting process?

Bobby, Tolzman, Engelbrecht, Goodwillie, Ben Uzoh, Mike Akuboh, Sarah Chan - they were all hired by Masai Ujiri.

So yes, Masai deserves a ton of credit, because he didn't only build the foundation but the structure as well.
