But that's the thing, there is no incentive for him to do that.
-He is 34 years old, very close to retirement age
-He already got his big bag that won't get anymore when he is 38.

He literally has no incentive to play better. That's why you don't hand out these contracts to 34 years old players.

A player would normally have an incentive to play better, or at least as well as Embiid has at his max in the past, if he was driven to win a championship. We saw this with Dr. J back in the early 80s -- nearing the end of his career and no championship yet. He was driven and he finally got it.

I don't blame him for any of this. It didn't take a genius to see this had little to zero chance of succeeding to the point of making this team a serious contender, and a huge chance of blowing up and ruining the next 2-3 seasons.

No one could have predicted the utter disaster it has become so fast, but to me the best case scenario would have been a couple of 2nd round exits where the fan base convinced itself "it would be different this time" followed by a decline into mediocrity.

What we're seeing is perhaps the best case scenario, just ending this farce before it ever got started, and forcing a reset or rebuild. That's if Harris and Morey are smart enough to grab the opportunity.

Truthfully I'm not that mad about George. There's probably only been a 2 year period during his peak Pacers days where he could be the best player on a pseudo-contender and he's never been that after he's left the Pacers. That was 7 years ago.

He signed up to be Embiid's batman like he was Kawhi's batman. I'm not surprised at all that he's catered in impact across the board and also would not be surprised if he gets back to his optimal batman self next year when and if Embiid is ever back healthy. I don't think his body or athleticism has failed him. I think his motivation has faded without Embiid on the court.

He signed up to be Alfred, and that’s where most people misunderstood him. Batman was Embiid, Maxey was Robin. Batman was out most of the year. Robin was in a slump for like a quarter of the season. When Batman, Robin and Alfred were on the court, they were out of sync.

I see the pinky splint placement for the photo.

He looks pretty thirsty too.

I'm sure he's doing hours of dribbling drills and shooting behind the scenes, being a max paid professional baller.

I’m staggered why looks so bad this season because he looked amazing next to kawhi and harden last season. The drop off this season has been so far that it’s quite staggering.

Having said that Norman Powell is looking amazing as well in George role of last season

Man, this guy is going to make Tobias look like a good contract.

To be honest, I forgot about Tobias' contract as soon as George signed. Tobias merely handed the baton to George.

I expected the idiot national media to think it made us contenders, but it still blows my mind how many on here thought it was a good idea.

Had no idea this guy was the biggest grifter this side of Washington DC.

Separate but related thought: is this because he knows Jo is done? Packing it in early so to speak?

Who knows? Remember, he never wanted to come here in the first place, but we were the only fools to offer him a full max.

Has this guy ever been seen as a championship type player that great teams would lust after? He's always seemed to me to be just a much better version of Tobias, a guy who will put up numbers and make all-star teams, but will come up small in the biggest spots.

Another thing to remember - Ballmer was desperate to have a winning team and stars when opening his new arena, and he let George walk rather than pay him. And George very much wanted to stay in LA, but only for the max. The signs were all there in blinking red neon, but Morey was blinded and obsessed with getting that "3rd star", and so here we are.

Gotta tell this guy to get back on the floor and show out so it is possible to send him back West.

The Lakers have a bunch of crap expirings. Wonder if maybe something could be worked out there?

What a generational bag getter. He's Kirk Cousins with a jumper.

Doubtful. The Lakers have smartened up to the point of making it clear they are moving on from James and looking to the future building around Luka, so why would they be remotely interested in an overpaid, oft-injured grifter?
