What the next thing LAL does is perhaps trading Reaves for Wiggins. Maybe they bench Lebron as well. But if Miami accepts it, this is the worst paid backcourt among the League. Miami could become another Pheonix Suns.

If push comes to shove, just sign PJ to $50M and do a straight swap with LBJ. Since PJ is still unsigned, you can sign him to whatever amount to match salaries

PJ is signed for the coming year, he's not extended...

Not yet he isn’t but all reports are that the Mavs are going to offer him a contract in the 4 years for $80M-$88M range. He’s eligible to sign that deal in August.

Even at full max, 88M/4, it's a steal...

Again, not mad at all they traded him, just what they got back and how it was handled.

I’m not convinced the trade has motivated Luka. He gets in amazing shape every year before his national team plays. It’s in March, April, May, and June where I want to see him in amazing shape. Hopefully the trade lit a fire under his ass but I need to see it before I believe it.

arkuo wrote:Well Luka looks like he's taking his conditioning seriously now. Being shipped out of Dallas got him working out and posting weight loss photos of himself. A company told him they don't want him even if he scores over 30 per game in the playoffs. That is a very bold message. Now he's eating better.

It's the same with Nash when he left. There were some guys here that thought his back was done. Somebody mentioned stick a fork in it. He's done. Not being re-signed was a wake up call and that's the time Nash took it seriously.

Let’s see what he looks like after the All Star break and heading into the playoffs.

This is exactly the same price per year that Herb Jones gets.

Anthony Davis, Caleb Martin, Brandon WIlliams to Chi
Coby White, Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, Javon Carter to Dallas

What picks make it balanced?

Things get strange when it comes to Lebron. LAL does not want anything more than expiring contracts for Lebron. Then, basically, it takes away all potential suitors to Lebron. And it means Lebron serves the team mainly as an expiring contracts. LAL has a plan in 2026 big fish. Is it Jokic?

LA will not bother not making the playoffs. This is basically forcing Lebron to either running out the contract in whatever role or requesting a buyout at significant team friendly cost. Or waiving the no trade clause. Let the team to push for a trade.

It seems to me that Luka and Jokic want to team up in 2026. Not wanting to be vulnerable, LA decides not to trade for Wiggins and not to extend DFS. Keep all the expiring contracts instead.

LA actually wants Lebron to cooperate in a Jokic trade. Luka is waiting on the situation before any extension. In case it is like that, Luka won't sign the extension with LA before being completely set free.

Jokic will wait so that he can sign supermax, Luka will do the same, no one is getting traded. Lebron will be off the books next year for the Lakers so that they can start fresh.

Are you sure Luka is going to be cool with that? He’ll be 27 in February. Do you think he will be ok just waiting until he’s 29 years old before LA can put a contending team around him?

I honestly could see Luka forcing a sign and trade to Orlando where most of his old Mavs coaching staff is. They’re also a contending team, especially in the East.

Since I don't cheer for the Lakers, it is my hope that they screw up with the supermax contracts and end up with another playoff disappointment. I can't cheer for another team.

Don't know exactly but his personal PR in an recent interview said they're happy with the Lakers organization and they have a great working relationship with everyone. (Probably a subtle jab at Nico).

But all signs point in the "we're going to extend" direction. 2nd Aug is the date everyone will monitor. I don't expect any surprises.. same with Jokic.

On another note. Kyrie recently said he probably won't be back even for the playoffs. Now Nico is being a smart ass and thinks he's the smartest guy in the room again.

Mavs GM Nico Harrison on Kyrie Irving's recovery from ACL surgery: "Kyrie's ahead of schedule but we kind of knew he would be... but we don't want him to rush it as much as he wants to rush it."

Does anyone really believe a shoe salesman suddenly turned doctor is the one keeping Kyrie from coming back too soon? The same guy who hired the most incompetent medical staff last season when they almost f'cked up everyone, including the guy Nico said is taking vacations?.... Yeah, i just hope Kyrie is smart and does his own thing.

I would expect his PR team to say that especially when Luka is asked a direct question. What he’s thinking may be different though. Is he jaded by the trade? You can’t really blame him if he is. He has zero ties to the new ownership (or the prior one for that matter) and hasn’t been in LA long enough to warm up to the fanbase. If he’s going to force his way out of LA this would be the perfect time. Go someplace you actually want to be and salvage your legacy. And honestly if he’s went East he would be guaranteed a Finals run sooner rather than later. He would dominate the East. Orlando just seems like a perfect spot for him. Orlando also has the assets to obtain Luka. Orlando might have to do some slight rebuilding but rebuilding around Luka/Paolo would make life pretty easy for their GM.

I believe Kyrie and he ain’t exactly say that he expects to miss the season. He said he wants to make sure he’s 100% before he comes back even if that means missing the regular season. That’s not the same thing as saying he expects to miss the season.

We’ve seen his videos and he’s clearly doing very well in his rehab and like Nico said he’s ahead of schedule. So there’s a chance that Kyrie is feeling 100% at any point during the season.

These are his dad's words for our media, so don't lynch me :D He said they're extremely happy with the Lakers and they have never seen an organization being run so professional as them. They also see Cali as their new home.

And recent interview from his PR staff.

Luka's manager Lara Beth Seager gave some followup quotes on the ESPN article to Shelburne:

The Lakers leadership team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of Luka since we arrived in L.A. We've spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other over the last few months, and we've formed a strong working relationship.

“Championships are won when you work together. We all share that same goal.

“Luka loves playing with LeBron and has learned so much from him. He has nothing but the utmost respect for LeBron and considers it an honor to be his teammate.”

But yeah, you could be right and maybe he'll decline to sign anything and just wait it out :dontknow:
