Drafts flatten at different times ;)
You can look at it glass half full or half empty.

Flattened out ?!?!?!?!?!?

2023 NBA draft:
12 Dereck Lively II
13 Gradey Dick
14 Jordan Hawkins
15 Kobe Bufkin
16 Keyonte George
17 Jalen Hood-Schifino
18 Jaime Jaquez Jr.
19 Brandin Podziemski
20 Cam Whitmore
21 Noah Clowney

The first player in the draft clearly as bad as Howard is #22 Dariq Whitehead. Perhaps one can argue that #15 Kobe Bufkin is as bad as Howard.

Most of the players above are SGs, by the way.

Howard was a horrible pick.

Since we are comparing Penda to Howard, interestingly at #32 In 2023 was Jalen Pickett; he is a SG who is better than Howard.

Dick, Hawkins, Bufkin, Hood-Schifino and Clowney all haven't done much for their teams. Jett was a horrid pick but I feel like their choices were always going to be a shooter there, and many fans wanted that as well. I think whether they took Jett, Dick, or Hawkins, they'd probably be disappointed with all three at the moment.

Bufkin has been pretty good when he played, but he's been constantly injured. Which is an issue of itself, obviously.

This List shows that Jett was the right pick unfortunately we wont know as i dont see Jett getting much opportunities to shine next season.

My guess is that we wont pick his 26-27 option and let him go next summer (or trade his expiring contract in feb along goga for future assets)
Suggs, AB, Jase
Bane, Melton, Jett
Franz, TDS, Houstan

One season to show what he can do .... And I he most opportunity that he got was to get in the game on a season where the teams offense system as a whole was a historical low.... And he didn't shoot well either .. the skill that everyone wanted him to do so well in and was grading him on.... That when he didn't hit the mark.... Now he's "trash", "doesn't belong in the league", "is a bum"... At 21/22 with technically one years worth of experience in the league.

The team did NOT add him in any trades.... Just deal with the fact that there is a possibility that the team evaluates him higher than the fandom does with their quick takes of frustration through the little data they have. I saw a player that missed shots and was a willing passer on an offensively deficient team. Perfectly fine for having your first year of getting league reps. Not everyone has to come in and kill it

I liked Bufkin, Lively, George, and Whitmore out of that group.

I think the reason we didn't draft Lively is because we had acquired Goga, and he showed promise. We didn't draft George because we had Cole. Weltman has always been careful at not drafting players who wouldn't have a clear path to playing time. That's a flawed theory. Look at Philadelphia this season. They had Maxey, McCain, and Grimes, but they drafted Edgecombe.

So he took 6'6 spot up shooter and sent him to G league for a rookie year who is btw worst at basketball than majority of picks drafted 1#-#40 in that draft.

When it got to 11, most assumed the Magic would draft Gradey Dick. On this team, he would be a solid backup SG.

Seriously the only difference between Jett Howard and Gradey Dick is that Dick has played minutes on a tanking team and Jett hasn't.

Dick has graded out as one of the worst defenders in the entire NBA (1st and 9th percentile defensive EPM) and the Raptors have gotten absolutely blasted when he's been on the court.

The next five guards/wings drafted after Jett - Dick, Hawkins, Bufkin, George and Hood-Schifino - all have negative BPM and negative VORP for their careers.

They're all bad.

Weren't 24# and 25# picks both traded ?

That was Jett's projection anyway, also several people who "know stuff" said that Weltman never calls anybody.
So... hard to trade down when you are too busy golfing...

Point is, Jett, like Bamba, never made much sense. Bamba was at least "BPA" , Jett was guy that nobody saw going anywhere near lottery. From day one to present day, that pick/Player was bizarre decision.

This was nba.com last mock draft

And he takes him with 11

btw only one page (CBS sports) had him even going in lottery.

24 was traded along with Richaun Holmes' contract into Dallas' TPE so Sacramento could free up cap space.

25 was traded for 31 and two future 2nds. Then traded again along with a 2024 1st as part of the package to land Porzingis in Boston.

Keyonte George looked stunned when we picked Jett. They were high school teammates, and Keyonte was by far the better player.

Not sure what's the point you try to make. Guy makes millions to run a team, it's on him to come up with trade, not us on forum. I'm very confident that team like Nets were ready to jump a gun to get lottery pick, especially given context of where they were at that point of rebuild.

Just for argument sake , in that moment, Mikal Bridges costed only like $18M a year and Nets had 21 & 22 pick.

In theory, Magic could have sent 6#, 11# and i don't know, 2025 pick ( own, Nuggets ) for Mikal.

Jazz had 16 and 28 pick. Once again, low hanging fruit of a trade to get.

For all intention and purposes, they could also try to draft up. Scoot and Amen were right there.

All that still doesn't change fact that he drafted guy that has no business going anywhere near lottery.
