Daniel Dickinson is a good pick. Definitely a second baseman that could progress fast. Really good bat to ball skills. I think this is going to be a tougher sign. Coming off a college WS and LSU is stacked again for 2026.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6476189/2025/07/08/daniel-dickinson-mlb-draft-lsu-baseball/

Dickinson’s time at LSU was brief — he’s very likely to hear his name called in the first three rounds of the upcoming MLB Draft — but the most prominent chapter of his baseball journey had one hell of an ending.

Facing a 2-2 count in his first at-bat of LSU’s NCAA Regional opener against Little Rock on May 30, Dickinson was late on a fastball on the outside edge of the plate and flicked his bat at the ball to stay alive in the count. He connected. The ball went foul. He felt a shooting pain in his left arm.

The 21-year-old didn’t know it at the time, but he had suffered an injury that typically keeps players out for a minimum of three to four weeks. The at-bat ended in a popout to the first baseman. Dickinson’s next plate appearance in the second inning was so painful that he could barely swing. He still groans thinking about the weak tapper to the shortstop. He asked the LSU medical staff to wrap his hand and give him some medication to help combat the throbbing pain.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dickinson launched a home run to left field.

The next inning, he did it again.

X-rays after the win revealed the severity of the injury. The hamate bone in his left wrist had broken cleanly in two. Dickinson walked into the office of LSU coach Jay Johnson inside Alex Box Stadium and broke the news. He wanted to keep playing but understood if Johnson thought it was best for the team to keep him out of the lineup.

“I’ve had two other really good players (break their hamate bones) and they were out,” Johnson said. “So when he told me, my heart sank for a second because, it’s like, the two guys I’m talking about were really tough guys, really good players, and they just couldn’t do it.”

Dickinson did. For the next month, as the Tigers went 10-1 in the postseason, No. 14 was in the lineup. Dickinson didn’t swing away as freely as he usually does. He had only six hits in the 10 games following the injury — though two came in the national title-clinching 5-3 win over Coastal Carolina on June 22. One team, obviously unaware of the injury, intentionally walked him.

“Every time I’d swing, I’d feel excruciating pain,” Dickinson said. “The grip strength is gone. You can’t squeeze anything. I couldn’t even squeeze my glove.”

Amid the locker room euphoria following the national title, the pain vanished for a bit. He lightly gripped a celebratory cigar and posed with his teammates. There’s a photo of a grinning Dickinson on the flight home cradling the trophy with his left hand, as “Time is currency you can only spend once” can be seen exposed on his left bicep.

The velocity obviously isn't there, but that is some fun stuff to work with.

His swing looks great so I can see why so many of the scouts were that high on him.

Love watching this dude swing the bat.

Seems like a potentially good draft…?

Assuming they sign a few of the day 3 picks(they almost do) I'm happy with this draft. Then again I knew nothing of any of these dudes before yesterday

Love swinging for the fences in rounds 11-20. Brewers probably have the deepest system in MiLB. Try and improve the top end of the system.

May have to get down to Appleton more next season as they could be pretty stacked as would assume Made, Pena, Fischer will all be there together at some point.

Honestly I think there is a good chance those 3 all make to the Appleton this season

Fischer might stay in Arizona. He played a ton this year going to the CWS. Burke by comparison only got 16 AB's last year as a draftee after his CWS run.

Draft class is exactly what they should be doing with the system they currently have. When you are as deep as they are you take the lotto tickets over the high floor/low ceiling guys. Current suspicion is they'll have somewhere between 1.5-2 million they can spread out over 11-20 with the 5% overage cap. Any signing over 150K in those rounds count against the pool.

BP's midseason Top 50:

3 - Jesus Made, SS, Milwaukee Brewers
Why He’ll Succeed: Similar to de Vries, Made is a very athletic switch-hitter with above-average contact rates, plus swing decisions, and a real shot for plus-plus power. He could even end up staying at shortstop. Made turned 18 in May and is already carrying a 125 wRC+ in full-season ball over a long enough period to care. He has, simply put, done just about everything you can expect on the diamond for a guy who wasn’t even an adult two-and-a-half months ago.

Why He Might Fail: If you’re supremely nitpicking, he’s only been very good at Low-A and hasn’t hit for a ton of game power yet. I guess he hits the ball on the ground a little too much and swings through velocity a little too much. He’s also younger and much better than most of the high school players just picked in the first half of the first round.

9 - Luis Peña, IF, Milwaukee Brewers
Why He’ll Succeed: Made’s double play partner in Carolina is only about six months older and has been a much better professional hitter so far. While Peña lacks the same physical projection, he gets at least average power out of his stocky frame, and he’s started lifting the ball more across the season in Zebulon. He also makes good swing decisions and a lot of contact. Peña is likely to stay up the middle somewhere although he’s not a sureshot shortstop. It’s hard to pick out a weakness in his game, and his production at this age and level is special.

Why He Might Fail: Peña projects for more above-average hit and power than plus, and has some tweener risk as an infielder. He’s likely to be some sort of major leaguer, but he will have to come close to maxing out hit, power, and/or glove to be a consistent plus regular.

Blocked prospects who could be moved:

5. Jeferson Quero, C, Brewers
Quero’s finally playing again after a torn labrum wiped out his 2024 season and a hamstring strain delayed his 2025. He’s catching 3-4 times a week as he knocks off the rust and builds toward full strength.

There are some trickier variables here to evaluate. That’s a long layoff, and any acquiring team will need to feel confident in Quero’s previously-plus throwing arm returning to form. He’s making plenty of contact in Triple-A but without much power so far this season.

Still, Quero has everyday upside and William Contreras is entrenched at catcher in Milwaukee, so the Brewers can deal from a position of strength.

8. Logan Henderson, RHP, Brewers
Pitchers don’t get blocked as easily as hitters, but Henderson might be the exception. The Brewers are loaded with upper-level arms. Both Henderson and Chad Patrick are currently in Triple-A. Nestor Cortes is on the rehab trail. Tobias Myers, who started in the postseason a year ago, is currently in the bullpen.

Henderson has thrived all season on the strength of his bat-missing fastball-changeup combination. He could perhaps help Milwaukee’s bullpen down the stretch, but might bring even more value as a trade chip. If the Brewers shop from their surplus to add bats, Henderson will draw interest.

It would need to be a monster haul to get me to move either of those two.

Yophery has been the best prospect they've given up mid-season under the Stearns/Arnold regime. They rarely deal their best prospects & I don't see that changing this deadline

Rather trade Contreras than Quero (not advocating trading Contreras now)
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Fine trading Quero for an impact bat with control. I am extremely high on Dinges as a future starter.

I am so leery of a catcher after rotator cuff surgery. If he can't stick back there what do you do with him?
Do it for Chuck
