he will defend on perimeter with his quickness.....and yet strong and big enough to bang with the big boys inside to stop back downs, box out for boards, and contest shots.....he has more defensive potential than scottie imo with dpoy potential

He's gotta work on his lateral quickness for sure. Seems to have a bit of baby fat he can shed. Offensively theres also some concerns but at least we know he can finish at the rim it wont be a Mogbo situation. He's got a long way to go but should impact winning immediately with defense and rebounding.

Masai was easily a top-3 drafting GM. Hopefully we decide to keep Dan and he can continue the tradition. All this talk of hiring a player agent has me worried. Those guys are salespeople. They can't identify NBA talent if their lives depended on it.

Too much credit is given to Masai when it comes to drafting....sure he deserves his flowers for building the foundation but the team of 10+ people that are involved in the scouting process are still here. I would be worried if a new president comes in and cleans house.

And who do you think put together the team of people involved in the scouting process?

Bobby, Tolzman, Engelbrecht, Goodwillie, Ben Uzoh, Mike Akuboh, Sarah Chan - they were all hired by Masai Ujiri.

So yes, Masai deserves a ton of credit, because he didn't only build the foundation but the structure as well.

Yes I gave him credit for building the foundation. As long as the foundation is there the Raptors should operate the same way they have been since Bobby became GM. The loss of Masai won't be felt in the near 5 year future, but probably in 10+ years.

He was not fired because of the team lol it was purely financial. Ed wanted him gone after the championship lol

Im not convinced it was financial. Everything ive read about that little turd Rogers suggests it was personal.

He's the Raps best defensive prospect since OG. He should be able to do most of the things OG does defensively, including guarding 1-5.

I think long term we will see Scottie and him manning the 4-5 a lot. I don’t think they’ll ever be good enough shooting to be able to add in Poeltl with them. But that’s okay I think end of day you want lineup versatility and not always going with a big 5. It does limit his ceiling a bit if he’s sharing minutes with Yak/Scottie but if we win games that’s what matters for now.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

he absolutely does not, dont sell OG short here. One of the things that made him special defensively is his insane foot speed/lateral quickness which is incredibly uncommon for someone his size.

OG is the best one on one defender in the NBA in my opinion. CMB might be a little stronger, but he isn't as quick laterally. He's still well above average for a 6'6.5 guy laterally and elite for a 240lb guy.

That being said I find team defense way more important than 1on1 defense and he projects much better than OG in this regard plus he's a better rebounder.

Mogbo will be a better perimeter defender than CMB who is more of a 2.5-5 defender than 1-4 like Mogbo, but CMB will be a much better rebounder and will generate more turnovers. I think Mogbo would hold the guys he defends to lower shooting percentages unless they are bigs down low.

OG is twice the athlete CMB will ever be even coming in the league on a torn ACL. CMB is surprisingly a good mover with his frame and can hang with smaller guys but you don't want him doing that too much. OG is just a rare athlete and built that allows him to guard anyone on any given night.

OG is not that quick laterally. That's a total myth. He's pretty ordinary in all directions in terms of foot speed. He's just an incredible scout and uses angles and his strength better than almost every perimeter defender in the NBA. Being super long and strong gives you a lot of leeway in terms of the gap you can get away with. Like, OG is not getting up under a guy like Lillard, and neither will CMB.
