Wouldn't a buyout workout for all sides better?

So the 5 year plan here is to slowly do a complete swap of the Lakers and Dallas rosters?

Not for the Lakers, if you could get something back for LeBron you could do worse. PJ would be a positive addition for the Lakers right now and is on an expiring contract anyway so he wouldn't hurt their flexibility at all. Naji and Klay only have two more years left on their deals so they'd be easily flippable in case there was a big move the Lakers wanted to make in 2026, although they might want to keep Naji once they realize he isn't chopped liver. Adding two forwards who can play defense and shoot, and Klay Thompson without compromising your flexibility would certainly be better than nothing

I still don't buy this report, though. I could easily see LeBron exercising his NTC if this was the deal.

Fingers crossed this doesnt happen. Flagg and Washington as the forwards with Gafford/Davis/Lively in the middle with Thompson and Irving (hopefully January) is a pretty good team.

Luka, Reaves, Rui, PJ, Gafford
Gabe, Knecht, Klay, LaRavia, Ayton
Goodwin, Martin, Thiero, Vando, Kleber

Its a great trade for the Lakers because they get solid players around Luka for him to cook. They also work as trade pieces whenever Giannis or someone else wants out.

I don't see why the Mavs would want to do this, considering how old LeBron is, and you only get him for a year.

LeBron would pick the Heat over Mavs with Tatum Dame and Hali out for the year.

On the flip side.

Mavs get a recent All-NBA 2nd team player and Lakers get a group of role players.

What's 1 year of Lebron worth when youre not even sure if Kyrie is gonna be back to play with him?

Lakers have zero incentive to buy him out and with a NTC he's not going anywhere. The trade is just pure speculation as the Mavericks aren't about to give up core contending pieces for a 40yo Bron when they already have an injury prone AD, Kyrie rehabbing from a torn ACL and the runway clear for Cooper to develop.

At the end of the day, having a rumored malcontent Bron (even if he hasn't said anything himself publicly) is still better that not having him on the team. People who keep bringing up his 50m contract completely ignore that fact that the Lakers without him are at or close to the salary cap already. Even if he wasn't on the team or signed a minimum, it wouldn't have freed up anywhere near his salary to use in the open market. Plus the man made All-NBA 2nd team last season, he is still productive even at this advanced age in addition to the financial boost he provides off the court for the Lakers.

What is 1 year of any of the 2nd team all-nba guys worth?

Brunson, Curry, Edwards, Mobley.

How much would it cost for 1 year of any of these players? LeBron would be worth more because of the financial boon he offers that the others don't.

As far as income, it would probably be worth it

I have to admit that the idea of LeBron on the Mavs is very fun.

nothing happens in Dallas until kyrie comes back

i don't think klay cares because he has his rings and he wasn't getting a ring in dallas. now he comes home

one year at lebron's age is like two years to an nba player

luka is finally THE GUY

i like this trade but dallas has to add a pick

I dont think 1 year of any of them is worth anything that significant, but it does change team to team. I think the value of PJ/Gaff/Klay is actually fine with a protected 1st, but Lebron really doesnt make much sense for the Mavs. He's another at a position youre already great in, you lose FC depth where the guys remaining are injury prone and you only have him for 1 year when your current 2nd best player might not even play. I dont even get it for Lebron as he has a better chance of winning with Luka

When Nico talks about about "win-now" mode he means the Lakers. It's simple... trade the entire '24 Mavs finals roster to the Lakers, and they can win now.

Lol. Those Dallas players are average at best. Mavs aren't making the playoffs as currently constructed with these players.

Yeah sure, they'd look good with Luka again, mainly because of Luka and not because guys like PJ Washington are anything special. LeBron by himself clears all of their value.
