That's what I'm saying. The Pistons can't "give up salary without taking it back" with the Kings. Kings are already over the cap pre-Schreoder. Lavine, Sabonis, Derozan, Monk, and Murray are all already existent contracts and already account for $144M of the $154M in cap space, add in all the other small contracts they're definitely over that $154M cap. So they can't just accept Schroeder's salary in a trade. At least that's my understanding, but I might be wrong. Now if they send Monk to another team (without taking salary back), then yes, they might be able to absorb Scroeder's contract via trade, which would create a trade exception for the Pistons. But no one wants Monk.

My understanding is that they could take salary in a sign and trade because of a previously created TPE from an earlier trade.

They’d prefer to give up Monk’s salary since they have no use for him with so many other shooting guards.

Ah, you're correct! They have a ton of trade exceptions. But yeah it doesn't make sense for them to use one when currently Schroeder fits into their MLE money. Pistons would have to make it worth their while and I guess a deal couldn't be reached.

The ONLY way it makes sense is if there is someone else they want to spend that MLE on and they wish to keep that slot open. They can use their TPE for a sign and trade, but not for an outright signing.

DRob did keep the Heat from being swept in the finals. Hope he can play at that level. Seems he coasts some during the season but every playoffs, he balls out.

Too bad he likely wants to stay in L.A. but Chris Paul would be amazing for us at the full BAE. Doubt he gets more than the minimum. He would be the ultimate mentor for Cade and Ivey. He'd fit in great with the mentality of our guys. Wouldnt be much minutes for him but dayam, come to Detroit Paul

Ben Simmons is interesting. I wonder if he’d flourish on a team as tight nit as ours… He has had mental health issues, but was also always on complete messes of teams. His potential is still there for sure and is an elite defender and playmaker, but his shooting is terrible.

I say this for 2 weeks.. Malcolm Brogdon would be perfekt 6-4/228 guard, can defend 3 positions, really good shooter, Not a traditionel PG, but would be great

He was rookie of the year, 6th man of the year, has a Off year as shooter, of course he has Dome injury History but for the bae absolute great value

Duren Stewart Reed
Harris Holland
Thompson Robinson Klintman
Ivey Levert Lanier
Cunningham Brogdon Sasser

Simmons is not bad but without shooting he is only a bigger hayes

Agreed. If only we had more shooters. True though, that maybe the guys we have would be good for him. Just have him focused on passing driving and defending as Tobias backup. Would be a great guy to run things when Cade is off the floor.
Stew Simmons Holland Duncan Levert bench. 2 non shooters if, and that's a big if, Holland can, continue to shoot it like he did in tiny sample size that is the summer league haha.
2 no shooters in starting lineup too.
Not ideal. Interesting though

I've always liked Brogdan but I've heard he is definitely not thementor type. Unfortunately.
Maybe he's changed though because he would be great to impart some wisdom on Cade and Ivey

Plus Simmons can play both PF and PG.

Ben Simmons and flourish don't belong in the same sentence. Dude is washed. He's afraid to shoot.

Gun to head. It’s Anfernee Simmons. Helps backfill the 3’s we miss from Beasley. Marcus Smart would be next.

Brogdon would be the Monte Morris experience all over again…and you know the forum is bored when Ben Simmons talk crops up. Could have convinced me on him maybe 4 years ago, but the Ben Simmons off season hype train is not gonna hit me this time. Fool me once.

Paul or Westbrook would have to be cool with a smaller role, would prefer Westbrook of these two

Anfernee Simons feels redundant

Smart, considering the contract he’d probably sign feels like one of the better options of these options.

Fultz, I was among the people who brought him up last year. I don’t hate it, but I don’t think he’s a good fit here

Simmons- maybe just for the skills for the regular season. Feels like he’d be useless in the playoffs

The Philly rosters he played on were more than fine; the worst of them played at barely less than a 50-win pace. He was far from fine himself; he was a diva who refused to play the way in which his team needed him to play, then spazzed out when he was finally criticized after four seasons of the org coddling him.

He is an elite nothing at this point; he's physically washed up. And even if he's cleaned up his attitude, the last thing this team needs is another non-shooter.

I bet Ben Simmons is talking to Boston, not the Pistons. He would have a bigger role there.
