He might be broken mentally and physically, but he is intriguing, though. Low cost/high reward.

Broken Physically? What's his health concern? I stopped paying attention to him years ago.

the back surgeries have taken a toll on his overall athleticism a bit, he used to be a better quick twitch athlete than he is now, probably why he hesitates to even look at the rim even when he’s close to it at times

Yeah, that's my only concern with adding Simmons. Prime healthy Simmons is Josh Hart on steroids. I'm just not sure how impactful he can be at this point in his career on either end of the court after the surgeries but if he can still defend at a high level and handle the ball I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him even with his limitations on offense. I haven't seen enough of him over the last few years to know if he can even do that anymore. He clearly doesn't have the same explosiveness.

would be solid move, he's a good depth piece and he plays hard. would have preferred Caleb Houstan (better shooter)

Shamet needs to regain his shot from the first few years in the league when he was hitting over 40% w/ volume (in 2018/19 he was 45%, making 2.7 3's per game)

if they could move some $ around (coughKolekcough) and sign Smart if he gets bought out, I'd feel really good about next season and our depth

Just what the Knicks need. Another guy 6'5"

Had back surgery.

I recall that but, wasn't that years ago? If he's an injury waiting to happen that's a problem. He's already a mental case and he sucks at everything on offense outside of passing.

Clarkson was a waste of time IMO but, I'll root for him to prove me wrong. Should have signed Shamet instead and looked for an actual PG.

He had another back surgery in 2024.

Couldn't Simmons kind of fill the Precious role but with more versatility, at a cheaper price?

Simmons would be the perfect player to finish out the roster.

Brunson/Clarkson
Bridges/ Duece
OG /Hart
KAT/Yabu
Mitch/Simmons

Ben Simmons had his second back surgery in March '24, and had his first surgery in May '22. I'm not able to say how well he's healed or whether he should be able to play much without further risk of injury.

Philly and Brooklyn got badly burned by him. Of course, both those teams got screwed by other players as well. Brooklyn was forced to fire Kenny Atkinson!!! by two of their bozo players (not Ben).

Dont forget the big trades for a superstar can happen much later too. The Knicks traded for Karl-Anthony Towns (KAT) on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024. LeBron or Giannis can easily be traded all the way in early October.

This is 100% true. Mike Brown in theory (at least offensively and substitution patten wise) should be a much better coach for this team.

Those two will carry the NBA media buzz all summer. The drama of big name stars possibly on the move gets a lot of clicks. Throw the Knicks and other big markets in their and people will view it. There is another 2.5 months to fill.

I know it's getting eerily similar to last summer when there was no word on Randle extension. I know that's the angle that will include us in these rumors. People will trade check Mikal/Mitch for either guy. It's you. You're people! GET IT DONE LEON!!

Better off just combining the thibs and Mike brown threads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There’s too many threads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just make a thread for all offseason talk which can include thib thoughts and Mike brown thoughts etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the feedback. we won't be combining those threads. they have... key differences.

in the interest of keeping this thread on track, you can continue your feedback in PM or hamsterdam/community thread if desired.

thanks again.

Mitch is essential for this roster as long as KAT is here. You have to move Mikal.

Would Chris Paul or Malcolm Brogdon take the vet min?

The team could use a floor general with handles and court vision. I don't know if Ben Simmons is that. There's a lot of talk about Brunson having to play more off-ball, but it was hard to trust the rest of the guys to put the ball on the floor and create their own offense in the Indiana series. Huge opportunity for Bridges next season but his handles are not elite.
