The team could use a floor general with handles and court vision. I don't know if Ben Simmons is that. There's a lot of talk about Brunson having to play more off-ball, but it was hard to trust the rest of the guys to put the ball on the floor and create their own offense in the Indiana series. Huge opportunity for Bridges next season but his handles are not elite.

Not sure if posted already:

https://dailyknicks.com/the-knicks-could-quietly-bolster-their-wing-depth-with-this-key-signing

Amir Coffey is 6'7 unlike all the guards we're considering .

The other clear positive of adding Coffey is that he can space the floor, which fits the spaced-out style of offense that Mike Brown wants to run in New York. Last season, which Coffey spent with the Los Angeles Clippers, he averaged 9.7 points, 1.1 assists, and 2.2 rebounds over 27 games. More importantly, he shot 40.9 percent from three on 3.4 3-point attempts per game.

He was also one of the most accurate corner three shooters in the league last season. According to league tracking data, among players who took at least 100 corner threes on the season, Coffey ranked 17th in the league by drilling 44.2 percent of his shots.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Coffey has been mentioned but, not this specific article. I can't remember if there was any rumored interest from the Knicks at any point.

I have been saying it since last year when we first really got into these apron rules. Next year we will go over the apron and that will be all in. They have been keeping as flexible as possible in case another trade opportunity shakes loose but, they will most likely be over the second apron next season. They lined up the contracts that way.

I wish we had a couple of those Mikal picks but, it is what it is.

Begley thinks the reason why Mikal hasn’t been extended is because they’re waiting on the Giannis situation. That means they plan on trading him for giannis

This would be nice. I like the idea of Simmons.

Not a fan of Shamet. Knicks don't need another guy who is 6'4"

Simmons vs Shamet is tough. His history tells me no but, the idea of him is so damn tempting!! Shamet is the safe move all day to me but, I want another PG in case Kolek isn't ready.

Deuce should be starting IMO. He never really excelled running the offense off the bench and I really don't want Clarkson having that responsibility. Plus the move makes us deeper if we have a trusted PG to run when Brunson sits.

Simmons/Shamet instead of Clarkson would not have upset me but, whatever. If Simmons is a bust here at the mini it's not that severe. It's such a a tempting move because we could STILL let Kolek develop and use Simmons as well. I just don't trust the injury history and the mental toughness.

I gotta take Shamet in that scenario. I would prefer we at least try to get another PG before we settle on Shamet though. Brogdon is another tempting choice but, he too has injuries every year.

I know. Anyone can search YT videos.

Here's a one game highlight of Ben with the Clippers and season highlights of Nets/Clippers.
Yes, highlights are selective and make anyone look good, but lets see what Ben "Allergic to Offense" does in these.

Let's understand that IF the Knicks get Simmons, in the depth chart, what is he? 9th? Probably 10th.

Let's see:
1 Brunson
2 Deuce
3 Mikal
4 OG
5 KAT
6 Yabasule
7 Clarkson
8 Hart
9 Mitch
10 Hukporti
11 Simmons
Kolek
Dadiet
McCullars

Diawara - two way
Nnaji? - two way?
Dink Pate ?

We're talking about a guy who will rarely play unless there are injuries. With Mitch, that's a safe assumption.
Also, feels like luck about to run out with OG, so there's that.

Anyway, it's not a big deal who they sign, but seems like between Brunson, Deuce, Clarkson, Mikal, Dadiet, McCullars, there's enough guard like players
