Great pick up for the Clips. Beal is bad value at 50mill/year, but he's a good player and a steal at the min/near min

I watched his film last season. I’m expecting a similar bounce Harden had from 17 ppg to 22 ppg last season. He’s also a much better defender on film than I thought. Passing lanes, chase down blocks. If he can buy into JVG’s system and at least be solid like Harden was last year it will be a huge get. CP3 is next

Did they buy him out or stretch him? If it’s a buyout I don’t think it helps with the 2nd apron or tax issues.

My understanding is that they'll avoid $175 million in tax penalties this year alone because they're out of the second apron. Someone might want to vet that information though, I'm not an expert on this stuff.

It's a buyout and stretch. Beal gives back just enough money, so the Suns can stretch his contract over five seasons (and thus get out of the aprons). They needed a buyout though because of the Nasir Little waive and stretch they did a year ago, still being on the books. Lot of dead money though. Suns are going to be bad, but maybe fun to watch on occasion.

I was talking about the Suns in this instance, not the Clippers. Effectively waiving/stretching puts a huge amount of dead money on our books for the next FIVE years. I should have made that more clear than leaving it as relatively ambiguous.

Beal didn't work with KD and Booker because he needs to be on a team where he can have the ball in his hands and shoot at a high volume....so he joins the Clippers with Harden and Kawhi.

Also didn’t work because the remainder of the minutes were being taken by Nick Richards, Tyus Jones, Royce O Neal, Grayson Allen and Ryan Dunn.

With the clippers those non big 3 mins include from Zubac, Collins, DJJ and co. It’s chalk and cheese

If you think Powell struggled in the playoffs, take a look at the players they acquired the last time they were in the playoffs.

Lopez was unplayable in postseason last year. Hawks traded away Collins because he stunk in postseason.

Beal is not a serious playoff player too, but guys like him and Collins are depth in the regular season to keep their main and injury prone/old guys healthy while being entertaining to sell tickets, also being competitive and avoid the play-in.
