If you think Powell struggled in the playoffs, take a look at the players they acquired the last time they were in the playoffs.

Lopez was unplayable in postseason last year. Hawks traded away Collins because he stunk in postseason.

Beal is not a serious playoff player too, but guys like him and Collins are depth in the regular season to keep their main and injury prone/old guys healthy while being entertaining to sell tickets, also being competitive and avoid the play-in.

They are staying relevant well past their use by date. With reasonably decent health they’re a playoff team again, and then just one more year until Kawhi’s contract is over. Team age is still a problem but beggars. Ant be choosers.

He’s not going to be an All-Star or anything, but this is really the perfect team for him to have a bounce back season.

Why wasn't Phoenix the perfect team?

Beal played the same position as booker and their frontcourt was very underwhelming. Also beal was getting paid like 50 mill compared to 5 mill.

Beal didn't work with KD and Booker because he needs to be on a team where he can have the ball in his hands and shoot at a high volume....so he joins the Clippers with Harden and Kawhi.

The reason Beal didn't work in Phoenix wasn't simply about needing the ball in his hands, it was about the skillsets of those guys as well as their total team defensive inability, but also the salary.

Beal is not a needle movers, and he isn't meant to be, he's meant to take Powell's role, and Harden is older and doesn't want to score as much, so take scoring responsibility off Harden too.

Harden unlike either Booker or KD is actually a point guard. Beal was perfectly fine next to Wall and Westbrook who both had the ball a lot, just like Paul George who also does like the ball was perfectly fine next to Westbrook and Kawhi and Harden and Kawhi.

It's more about the skillset of having a real point guard that will help on the offensive side, but defensively the Clippers also are just a better team than Phoenix which helps a lot in playing him.

It will definitely be a better situation because Harden at this stage is not unhappy about doing more passing than shooting. Booker and KD last season took 18.9 and 18.1 FGA/G. Harden and Kawhi took 16.8 and 16.4, but Beal isn't being added to carry anything and he isn't making $50M which was the bigger issue for Phoenix

Good value for this contract and a nice addition for them. Though I would not call it a "steal". He's a role player at this stage of his career, and it's cheaper than most role players who produce at his level, it's not quite a steal.

Clippers are fodder so long as James Harden remains the starting point guard. Can't believe he's still on the roster TBH. You'd think they'd learned after years of evidence and last years game 7 but I guess not.

Last season, James Harden , Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac carried the Clippers to a 50 win season. They kept the Clippers afloat while Kawhi missed the first half of the season.

James Harden played way too many minutes all season. Rumors are that CP3 will also join the Clippers. He will help reduce the wear and tear on James Harden and Beal will help fill in for Kawhi as he will most likely miss half the season again.

But this year Clippers filled some needs by signing a back up center in Lopez and a starting caliber power forward in John Collins.

Also, Clippers had Terrance Mann , Bones Hyland and KPJ playing the first half of season until they were traded at the trade deadline.
Now they have veteran guards off the bench in Bogdanovich and presumably CP3, as well as Kris Dunn who was a menace on defense was did not qualify for DPOY award due to not playing 20 mins in each game he played.

They just won a title in 2020. Its been clear since then they were trying to sell the team (or at least add capital by removing a Buss brother or two), so the goal was skewed, despite Lebron/AD's effort to repeat.

Its the Lakers though, they only exist to collect championships.

If Kawhi stays healthy again they are my early season favorites to win it all. They are a deep team now.
