I keep hearing about CP3 and Brogdon to fill out the roster after we sign Beal, but I thought that the Grizz are going to waive Cole Anthony? I know that he's about ten years too young for our front office's preference, but what do you think about him filling the last spot?

Nothing particularly special about him, but also depends on what kind of role he's seeking

Sort of ties in with this trade so I’m putting it here.

I'm totally fine with all in moves that don't involve long contracts or losing assets

I like the move. Fills a positional need as well as aligns with the team's plans of shedding long term contracts.

It's a shame Norm got hurt and never really recovered back to his pre-injury self, where it felt like he was one of the top scorers in the league, and most reliable on the team. Plus the disappointing 3 point contest... At least he ended up in a nice city.

Hopefully the team can sign Beal and maybe CP3, I think that would be a successful off-season.

About 2 years too late -- but hey, really nice to see! I dig this move.. Norman Powell was big time for this team, but a change had to be made, and the team was unbalanced for 2 seasons in a row at least.

Collins may not be a consistent defender (limited knowledge on my end, just what I've heard/read mostly), but he brings things this team hasn't had since Blake Griffin at the big spot, and the team defense should remain quality.

And, I definitely do not mind getting Beal in this regard because now the team is more balanced up front.

Pretty exciting stuff

Truly appreciate all the blood, sweat and tears Norm' gave this org. Wish him success in Miami, and will help them out reliably.

Similar level players, it's just about filling a better position need for the Clippers.

Good move.

Yes- the crazy thing is this is a trade we talked about that actually happened LOL, maybe overdue but whatever. I don't think any of us is expecting a huge swing or improvement, but the trade made sense regardless. And I really hope Norm thrives in Miami, that's the only negative that he got sent elsewhere after being a stand up Clipper. But it happens.

Wow, the Clippers actually traded for someone under the age of 30.

The question is whether Beal and CP3 want to play together, and do they want to play together with Beard. It's all politics. Personal politics but also basketball politics.

The MLE is $5 million or so. Anything above the minimum is just pride. If they want to do this, Beal and CP3 should split it. They're each worth 3 HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. Tip money.

Beal is 32. The Clippers' sweet spot. Too young to be old but too old to be young.

Well--and I don't want to diss CP3, because maybe he wants to come here in any circumstances--but is he necessary now? Our PGs are Harden and Dunn, and Beal has had several 5-6 apg seasons, so he can run the offense if necessary. Right now, if we pick up Beal, I'd say our four man guard roster is:

Harden
Beal
Dunn
Bogie

Harden played nearly 2900 minutes last year. I don’t expect that again, but I think he’ll play 2300 plus minutes. If Dunn plays 1800 minutes (what he played last year), Beal picks up Norm’s minutes (2000) and Bogie plays 1500 (which is basically what’s averaged for many seasons), that’s 7600 minutes. That’s pretty much all the available minutes at PG and SG. CP3 says he wants to be a starter—I really think we’re looking more for a #4/#5 guard if we want to pick anyone up. We're really looking to fill, maybe, 1000 minutes. That's half of what he played last year. If it's between Beal and CP3, I think CP3 was and maybe even is now a better player--but I think Beal probably fits in better with what we currently have. I just don't see both of them here next year.

A little more on Beal and our lineups rotations if he comes here.

I think Beal will come here because he’ll be able to start and gets sizable minutes on a good team. It’s a great situation for him. And/but Beal—if we get him—is a very different player than Norm. Norm is a catch and shoot guy and he’s brilliant at that. He doesn’t dish, and would prefer not to put the ball on the deck; he’s a rhythm guy. That’s different from Beal, who can actually run an offense. As I said, he‘s averaged over 5 dimes in five different seasons—including with Phoenix the year before last. He can take pressure off of teammates in a very different way than Norm. Our offense isn’t fast paced, and that suits Beal. He’d be effective for us, IMO. And we would just have a terrific lower rotation

Zubac
Collins
Kawhi
Beal
Harden

Lopez
DJJ
Bogie
Dunn
Batum

I think two of the final five spots will be Christie and Yanic. That leaves Kobe Brown, Trentyn Flowers, Kobe Simmons and Patrick Baldwin to scrap for the final roster positions. But I also think the wild card, now, is Coffey. Yes, him. I’ll start a thread on it. 8-)

Would Beal be coming over on the vet minimum - one of those situations where any new salary he earns would be subtracted from his buyout package so, why take any more than the mini?... how does that work these days?

He is a very productive role player who puts up big number in meaningless games against lesser competition and disappears in big games against star NBA players.

He will average 20ppg in the regular season but then only average 12ppg in the playoffs.

And he constantly has injury issues.

He was born to play for this team, so.

The primary rule for buyouts is that a player can't make more than their original salary. Any amount the player makes above their original salary is deducted from the amount they get from the previous team. So let's say Beal gives up a total of $12 million in his buyout, $6 million per season, he keeps every dollar he makes up to $6 million, but after that he would not get any more money than the original contract.

I bet Kawhi had another offseason surgery that we won't hear about until October. John Collins is acquired to replace him at PF.

All we ask. You're here to take the load off Kawhi at the 4. Just get your ass to the right spot and be tall.

Career wise, Collins shoots 60.7% 2PT on 8.5 2PT attempts, and peaked at 64% FG on 11.2 attempts in season three.

What Collins historically won't be able to do is get himself a lot of opportunities in the playoffs, but this team will have enough scoring that taking attention rolling to the rim or being near the basket will usually be good enough, and so will the threat of hitting from outside.

Clippers simply haven't had a player at the PF spot like that in this current Clippers era.

Defensively I have no clue. There are a lot of things outside of physical tools that go into defensive impact, including effort and defensive IQ.

Clips getting Beal now. So the deal is Powell and 2nd round pick for Collins and Beal. I do that deal, I like the size additions and new kid (forget his name) is doing OK in the summer league. I didnt think this team would actually do anything meaningful with the roster other than running it back with the same peeps. Instead we have more size and a bit of balance, the ability of Kawhi to go back to SF and legitimate scorers in the backcourt. Fingers crossed that they all stay healthy! Go Clips!
