And at the time an opportunity to win a championship. Most thought the move would turn us into serious title contenders. They went all in on what they thought would put us over and it failed. Not gonna fault them for that. Can't expect to have KD and Beal rent free for 3 years - It cost us dearly.

I'd imagine, they thought moving Beal/KD was on the table but it just got to the point where Beal was untradeable and the KD trade reaped less than what we hoped.

Really just a failed gamble which backfired in the worst way possible.

So like I was saying. Once the follow up trades are made, and they add back matching/ equitable salary via trades and signings, unless they intentionally take back much lower salaried contracts, they'll just end up right back over the apron and possibly the 2nd apron again too if they don't effectively cut significant salary in these follow up moves.

Hindsight being 20/20, a good question will be if it was really worth it to anchor ourselves to nearly 20 million in dead cap just for a temporary solution now when it won't really change our competitive trajectory very much if at all.

I would be shocked if the Suns actually end the season over the tax line. Its just such a huge actual money difference because it gets them out of the repeater penalty plus if you're under you receive a check from the over the tax teams.

Like they could go slightly over signing guys to fill out the roster then just trade Richards or someone for a less expensive player or straight into a teams trade exemption and get under before the end of the year.

Richards at the trade deadline will be an easy trade and like you said, there should be a TPE out there and the Suns would get back a future second or something

Pistons from the Shroeder deal got a huge TPE -- I think $14m
If they were to desire Royce - he would easily fit under that one -- granted, he has three years left where Richards is expiring

Or just don't do the Williams trade to bank the savings from Micic's $8.1m team option. I don't have an issue with Richards because he's cheap and is a perfectly fine stop gap option while we bring Maluach into the fold.

Read on Twitter

Did he need to give up $14m though?

for ishbia to stretch him - he had to give up 14m

which is what happened

I thought we went through this already. He got paid the $13m upfront so the difference is really like $1m or so

I think Gambo tweeted that part was waived - or it was 14m total even if he got $13m up front.

I don't have twitter so I'm getting most of my Gambo tweets on realGM, maybe I missed it. But if he got paid the 25% upfront already then there's no reason for Beal to give up the full $14m in a buy out.

Beal is high up on my list of least favorite Suns ever along with James Jones, Mario Elie, and Robert Horry

Not for me. Blame the guys making the decisions to bring him in knowing full well what's in his contract.

Last time I checked the Wizards gave him that contract. Ishbia traded for him but that is now a distant memory.

Time to look forward to the future.

He gives up ~14M from the total value of the contract (~$110M), so now he is owed ~$96M over the life of his contract. Thats the buyout.

The payment he got the other day just ends up being a big chunk of that $96M at this point, separate from the buyout.

I respect your view. But the trade (at least for me) made no sense. It created a clusterf$&k at SG on a team with two many wings. No balance or thought was put into it. Ishbia went for the shiny object instead of listening to people who know the NBA or analyzing the situation. A super team only works when the players, play different positions and different style to allow them to play at the same time.

For me, I’m going to fault them for this soup sandwich they created.

Question is, what guard they gonna sign? I can only think of: Gary Payton, Cam Payne, Blanton, and Cory Joseph.

I think GP2 is your best bet. Injury riddled but Warriors winning mentality, defense, toughness.

I guess the pro “stretch and waive” peeps expect this team to put a contender together over the next 3-5 years.

For what I know he doesn't have info about Melton...so he is a possibility yet.

I never said no to Melton that is not true! I don’t know about him.

Thats about my response. Makes no sense what’s so ever to hate a player that did nothing wrong (except one time he felt disrespected because his coach wanted him to play like a different player). But hey, each to their own. Maybe Beal didn’t complain enough about not getting selected to the All-Star. Whatevers!

Josh Bartelstein needs to be fired for initiating the Beal trade that has crippled this franchise and the fact he is still in the FO makes me think Ishbia is a poor judge of character.

This trade sealed the end for this franchise with all the pick swaps that will likely have us not having a lottery pick until 2032 while also having 20M in dead cap space for the next 5 years.
