The crowd seemed kinda sensitive, but I thought it was pretty funny

Same. Best opening monologue since Peyton Manning ethered Kevin Durant.

Norm Macdonald energy, could tell he was a little nervous but love what he was doing.

Athlete crowds are some of the worst, they always say, because their ego cannot handle the jokes (with some exceptions, there are obviously good sports among them, just not a high %).

What I've come to learn over the years is that athletes don't know how to laugh at themselves and are super sensitive.

ESPY crowd always sucks. But not as fun as Knick fans booing every pick in the draft.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

This guy is fascinating. I find him to be one of the most genuinely unfunny people ever. He's like the high school clown who never moved out and hangs out at the local bar still doing the same shtick 20 years later.

Going to say the same thing. Definitely reminded me of Norm doing the ESPYs back in the day. A lot of awkward groans from the athletes in the crowd haha

Generally you can´t go wrong with Shane and/or the Shaman. Not really awesome material here, but guess his stuff needs to watered down for those kind of events.Would have preferred if they let him just ramble for 10 minutes about the Wedge, but guess Robot Wars wasn´t invited to the award show.

This cut is missing his best joke

And yeah most athletes have no ability to take a joke.

I get what you’re saying, but I think a lot of people miss what actually makes him funny. For example, he’ll say something like “that’s gay,” which by itself sounds like a dumb joke from 2005. But that’s the point. It’s funny because it reminds you of how people talked in high school back then, and he’s making fun of that mindset, not promoting it.

Like someone said, “I got married last weekend,” and his response was, “congrats, what’s his name.” If you only hear the words, it just sounds like a basic joke. But it’s the way he says it that makes people laugh. He’s really making fun of himself for telling something so obvious and dated, and that self-awareness is what makes it funny.

Totally fair if it’s not your thing, but I think a lot of people miss that part of his humor and judge it just by the surface.

How can you not find this funny?

I thought he was funny but his timing was off on a lot of it. I don’t think it was his best foot forward.

I think that might been a TV thing. I seen a recording from the crowd and they had a much better reaction.

Yeah, visibly nervous, but largely delivered. Those are hard gigs for comedians, thought he did a really solid job.

I would go as far as to say that professional athletes are, on average, not fun people (of course huge exceptions are numerous).

Crowd seems ok to me. But I love the Caitlin Clark about nailing a bunch of "threes."

Literally watched the ESPYs because of Gillis. He wasn't 10/10 funny but he still had more than enough good jokes where the crowd went silent on him. So annoying seeing a bunch of stuck up/sensitive folks.
