It's weird how 35 is ancient for NBA players and then I remember I'm way older than that haha

I think at this point the bigger question isn't whether or not Dame wants to come to Boston, it's if he wants to sign now or wait until he's healthy

Celtics gonna assemble the best shooting squad of all time:

Tatum, Brown, Simons, Lillard, Pritchard, White, Hauser, Niang
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

They'll destroy the most 3 pointers taken in a season record for sure.

I'd be surprised if Simons does, or if he does it will be with full intention of being traded.

I think Niang has a good shot, even if he's traded. Good system fit and has ties to the area. Good chance he's vet min next year, so even if he's traded before his contract is up, we can bring him back for that.

Agreed on Simons. We need to Trade him, to get under the 2nd Apron. Preferably for no one back, and like 5 x 2nds.
Niang, I'm not so sure about. I'd prefer that we select our own Players (by FA) as opposed to Trading for them.

Dumping Simons deal would cost us, not return picks.

Not sure what you mean on Niang? I'm saying when he hits FA next year he'll be a minimum salary candidate. We'll be able to sign him for that, even if we trade him before then. Considering his ties to the area, I can see that. His deal might need to be moved to cut costs this year, but he fits the team pretty well next year once his contract expires so he can be paid the minimum like I think he deserves.

We're only over the 2nd apron by like $300K..that's basically nothing.

We don't need to trade Simons to get under the 2nd apron. We could do a much smaller move (one that doesn't make our team significantly worse in both the short term and long term) to get under the 2nd apron, such as moving either Tillman, Walsh or JD (via trade or waive..) to trim the roster from 15 standard contracts to the minimum of 14.

Ehhh. Lilliard will be 36 when he can play, in 2026-27; and coming off an Achilles Injury.
Plus, we'd only have 13 Active Players next season, max. And Stevens tends to carry an open spot. So, that's 12 Active Players.

I guess that it would be good for Development, in 2025-26.
But the gamble of waiting for Lillard, may not be the best course of action.

Lillard going to take the vet min just like Beal took the vet min? Beal got the taxpayer MLE and so will Lillard. Probably part of the reason there is no rush for Lillard is because Stevens needs time to make some other moves so he can sign Lillard for the taxpayer MLE.

As I understand it, the difference is Beal was bought out, while Lillard was stretched. That means Beal keeps whatever new money he signs for, whereas Lillard makes the same as his new money just comes off what Milwaukee's paying him.

I'm sure it's not 100% that simple as nothing in the CBA is, but the main point is, Lillard doesn't make more by signing for more with his new team.

I could be wrong too. This stuff is so complicated it's amazing anyone understands it all.

Actually, from what I understand you can do both. And that seems to be what they did?
Suns Bought out Beal, with Beal Agreeing to take $13.9 less.

The Suns now can use the "Waive-and-Stretch" provision, over 5 years.
I'm not sure, if his pending Contract amount with the Clippers comes off of the Suns obligations?

The important variable (I think) is Beal took less to get bought out, while Lillard got his whole amount. That is the key difference.

Right. Understood.

So Beal, is free to keep whatever he gets from a new Contract. (Cause of the Buyout?)
And Lillard, just gets the same amount. Deducted from the Bucks obligations?

Of course, this is nice and easy to navigate.

Yes, I believe this is the way it works.

Will Lillard's new salary be on top of what the Bucks owe him?

No, Damian Lillard's new salary with a different team will not be on top of what the Bucks owe him. The Bucks used the "stretch provision" after waiving him, meaning they will pay him his remaining $112.6 million over five years, regardless of where he plays. Any new contract he signs elsewhere will be offset against this amount, meaning the Bucks will only owe him the difference.

Who pays Beal's new salary?

His new salary will be paid by the Los Angeles Clippers.

This is happening after Beal agreed to a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns. Beal will then sign a two-year deal worth $11 million with the Clippers, which includes a player option for the 2026-27 season. He will reportedly take a spot opened by a trade that sent Norman Powell to Miami. The Clippers are expected to use the remainder of their mid-level exception to sign Beal, which would leave them roughly $3.5 million below their first-apron hard cap, according to Hoops Rumors.

Separately:

New Contract with Clippers: Beal is expected to sign a two-year, $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBC Sports. The Clippers will pay this new salary, which is separate from the Suns' obligation to him.
In essence, the Suns are still paying a portion of Beal's old contract through the stretch provision, while the Clippers are paying him a new, lower salary.
