If his 3 pt shooting is legit, he is going to be in demand. I don't think they trade him if that's the case

Going to be hard to find playing time behind Schroeder, LAVINE, monk, Keon, and nique. It’s why they tried to get him to play pg this summer league even though he’s never played it before.

I didn't realize he didn't play there in college. FWIW, basketball reference has 95% of carter's minutes last year at PG but it's all combo guards in Sac.

I think he'll be a pg like Avery Bradley was a pg. Still insanely valuable in the playoffs. Imo, he's ripe as a buy low.

Check out his cleaning the glass lineup data. Despite playing very little last season, he did play in a bunch of lineups where he was the closest thing to a PG on the court. Again, it's all combo guards out there, even derozan is as much a pg as anyone on that roster. Still, of his 680 non-garbage time possessions, he played 577 w/o fox.

I guess you can call monk, ellis, or even derozan the PG in those lineups but I'd probably agree with basketball reference in that he spent most of last season as the PG on the floor, if in name only. Probably not 95% but the overwhelming majority of the time.

That's a good comp and I agree he's a buy low candidate. With the backlog of combo guards in that rotation, I think he'd be the odd man out. Probably Ellis, too. They just don't seem to value Keon the way the advanced numbers do (and some not very advanced numbers).

Monk was playing “pg” or creator / running dribble hand offs with sabonis once fox was traded.

He’s a pg the same way podz is a pg, he can bring the ball up and run a play but if you’re asking him to run the team get into the paint and create for others it’s not going to work. For us now that we have Jimmy and Steph he wouldn’t have to do that.

But in sac he’s going to be behind Schroeder and monk at pg. behind LAVINE and Ellis at sg and maybe even nique. So he’s the 5th guard maybe 6th guard on that team there’s not going to be a lot of playing time for him. So going to be hard for him to show out and raise his stock unless they have injuries.

But whatever looks like kings are out of it anyway.

Sure but I think the sac fans value him more than that.

I think they have to be careful about taking back more salary than they send out, which hard-caps them at the 1st Apron. IMO, the most likely route is to play the season as a 1st Apron team, maybe a 2nd Apron hard-cap which wouldn't affect them much.

They've been looking to dump lavine, monk, and derozan all offseason. That's progress.

No takers for this 3. Some team will get desperate though, the price isn't even high

Yea just don’t think they’ll be able to trade them. There’s no one interested now and it’s the easiest time to trade them.

I'd say it's pretty damn high. Next two years of lavine will cost 96M while Demar will cost 50M over that time. I understand that's not what you meant but that's a pretty penny to pay for two guys that aren't moving the needle very much.

I keep reading this, and I had to look it up. I used to keep up with the CBA, but I was out of pocket too much when it changed in 2023.

This rule is rough. This means two teams above the 1st apron cannot trade with each other unless the salaries are an exact match. To the dollar. How often does that happen, outside of players on minimum salary contracts?

Yes, lavine has a fat contract. But demars is only guaranteed for 10M/year. That's cheap. So, even at 10M/year teams aren't lining up for him.

My point was that the landscape has changed for pure bucketgetters. They aren't getting paid nor are they getting assets in return. Most teams are actually dumping them to whoever wants them for peanuts.

Bringing in 3rd (or fourth) teams to send salary to is one way. And it only means salary matching, so sending a player out that the other team can take on a minimum exception, for instance. There are workarounds, but you're right, it makes trading more difficult in many situations. IOW, it's working as designed.

Finally getting some info on what JK is looking for. He's looking for 25+ annually. Warriors have been reluctant to go that high.

Reluctant, which sounds like they'll go over $20M/yr. Ugh.

Yea seems likely JK ends up getting 20-23M which means he will have only missed out on 20-14M total between 2 years from the warriors initial offer last year, which isn't as big of a bag fumble as some are making it out to be.

But if he plays on the QO then that's a bag fumble.

Yeah, if that $25+M per is for a 2+1, it's not much lost money from the original offers. 3/75 is $48M for the first two seasons. The first two seasons of a 5/150 would have been $54M. Or, if it was closer to 5/140, that would have been $50M for the first two seasons.
