Two Cavs trades with Jazz and Thunder
Cavs get: Walker Kessler and Brice Sensabaugh
Jazz get: Max Strus and '31 unprotected first
Why?
Cavs add bench depth, which includes a much needed big. We also save a lot of money.
Jazz get a high variable first.
Offer Walker Kessler a 4-year, $70 million extension.
Cavs get: Ousmane Dieng
Thunder get: Dean Wade
Why?
Cavs add a prospect they liked who could contribute. Wade is injury prone.
Thunder add a stretch big that would be a good fit in their roster.
Offer Ousmane Dieng a 4-year, $50 million extension.
PG: Darius Garland / Lonzo Ball / Craig Porter Jr.
SG: Donovan Mitchell / Sam Merrill / Tyrese Proctor
SF: De'Andre Hunter / Brice Sensabaugh / Jaylon Tyson
PF: Evan Mobley / Larry Nance Jr. / Ousmane Dieng
C: Jarrett Allen / Walker Kessler
Coach: Kenny Atkinson

Yah, Cleveland has a good core. Anything can happen in 6 years, but I have some hope in both Kessler and Sensabaugh long term.

And Many, Many picks

I'm going to keep a close eye on where Kessler goes and for how much, that's for sure (I"m a fan)- whether Jazz sign him then trade him or b4 they sign him, if they do.
Jazz still want Multiple picks for Kessler Right? should be fun, to see what happens.
Sorry Op but this no go zone for the trade. Jazz want more. Lakers can/could of offered that.

No interest from the Jazz standpoint.

I don’t see the point of the Cavs spending money and resources on bench players who might not crack playoff rotations.

Can't the Cavs just play Mobley at 5 when Allen sits? They need depth behind them but Strus and 1st is a high price to pay for a 3rd string.

As one of the remaining holdouts on Dieng island, you’re projecting a role for him that he likely isn’t ready for.

Re: Two Cavs trades with Jazz and Thunder
Altman has no business trading future firsts. We've conveyed one of 5 future first round picks we owed.
As Toooskie noted, Dieng probably doesn't see the floor in the playoffs. Wade can defend, rebound, and is expiring.

I mean, you can play Mobley exclusively at the 4, which lets Hunter play more or exclusively at the 3. Honestly the Mobley/Allen combo falters slightly in the playoffs because they get too tired late in the 4th quarter. There's logic to getting another big that's viable in the playoffs. You can pair up Mobley and Allen more in bench units with another true C on the roster.
But I don't think the Cavs pay a starter and a 1st to get that backup big when Larry Nance probably does most of what the Cavs could find useful there. If not, the Cavs should look at something like a Dean Wade for Andre Drummond swap depending on how Philadelphia's season goes.

What's your projection of what happens with Kessler? Extension before the season? How much? 5/125m? Or if he's traded, can you give an example trade framework that is realistic and valuable?
The Sexton trade was surprisingly low trade value compared to what fans and posters thought it would take. Obviously Kessler is a much more valuable player, but I wonder if there's a similar 'that's it?' type surprise trade return for him.

I’m highly doubtful it’s a ‘that’s it?’ trade for Kessler. I think the smoke there has been teams wanting him not the Jazz shopping him.
I think they’ll do a 5/125 with the first year being front loaded and then last year being higher with the middle years declining. So like 30/20/20/25/30, the Markkanen deal was structured similarly.

Yeah an extension seems like the likely outcome. Filipowski showing out is giving other fans hope that Jazz will move Kessler to make more room for Filipowski. But their skillsets are very different and even complimentary.
Me and some Pels fans are dreaming of him being an upgrade missing piece since the GM put them in 'win now' mode, needing to be as good as possible this season to avoid embarrassment of giving up a top pick.
Missi + '27 swap + '28 unprotected would probably be best offer (while having a plan to dump Murray immediately or him or Zion before next season, to have enough room for Kessler's extension). But maybe Ainge can fleece Dumars/Weaver even more. Jazz reset the rookie scale with Missi, keeping the cap clear the next few seasons, while picking up some juicy draft capital. They split Kessler's minutes to Nurkic and more developmental minutes for Filipowski, Hendricks, and Missi.

I wouldn't be surprised if they defer an extension until next summer. The Jazz have been hoarding 2026 cap space (the why is uncertain given the weak FA market) and Kessler's cap hold is relatively small.

I thought the Cavs wanted Mobley to play more C so there's fewer non-shooters around him?

I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

I think they let him go to restricted free agency to maintain the caphold and because it looks like offers may be really depressed under the new CBA. 5/125 feels reasonable. RE a trade framework, I think I have given one!
