I liked Caleb, but he had one NBA skill. It was a very good and valuable skill, but it was still just one skill.

Couldn't really rebound. Couldn't really defend. Couldn't really dribble.

I would've preferred we find a way to dump Jett and keep Caleb, but Jeff probably isn't ready to admit another lottery mistake.

Plus 50% from three after the ASB is nuts. Even if that's his only skill, it's a skill no one else on this roster has, which is why we are consistently bottom of the league in 3PT%.

I guess G-League Jett is supposed to make the leap this season. We'll see. I doubt it.

He was better than Jett and Black combined because he actually could do something

Or Weltman's lack of desire to move on from Jett.

We would have kept him if it really mattered.

problem is he has absolutely no drive game. he is basically like KCP but only shoots 3s. 85-90% of his shots are from 3 and 80%+ is created for him. And even the looks he gets are not off screens, relocation etc.

Pretty sure they have put a focus on players that can apply pressure on a close out and collapse defenses, not just swing the ball. Jett still has that potential, but his window is closing.

He would be perfect on a team like Denver.

I feel the same. If they absolutely wanted him back, he'd have been back.

I admit that I was surprised they cut him loose given how cheap he was, but they seem to be moving away from one dimensional players.

I see players like him having a tough time in this league. You need at least one other skill set. Above average defense, or some sort of drive/post game.

Even someone like Duncan Robinson is on a whole other stratosphere. Not only is he an elite shooter, but his game doesn't stagnate offenses. He can run a pick and roll when needed, create shots for others, close off the bounce and even create his own shots off screens.

I'm hoping Jett potentially takes a leap. He was so bad last season. There is no way he could be worse. I believe there is an NBA caliber player somewhere in that body.

Noooooooo…..

I really wanted to see what contract Caleb would look like. Also, he doesn’t have any media presence so he won’t give us a thank you shoutout.

Jett played at least 20 minutes 8 times last year.

11.0 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 2.0 TOV, 33/80 (.413), 16/57 3PT (.281), 6/8 FT (.750)

7.1 3PT attempts per game is good.

18 assists in 8 games from a wing is fine.

Everything else is kind of yuck.

I'm not a huge Caleb guy, but part of me wonders if Atlanta did this just to make sure we wouldn't get him back on a 2-way.

Is he? One dimensional role player with an injured ACL without a market. Not sure what drove up the price but the market was a vet min.

One dimensional player who pretty much carried the bench unit is pretty valuable. Weltman said he had offers on the table from other teams but chose to stay here. he probably took less money for that no trade clause as well.

We’ll regret it if and when he burns us in a game this season. But also keep in mind these front offices will often let marginal players go to see if they can find a better opportunity elsewhere. There might have been more going on than just cap mismanagement or looking for multi-dimensional players.
