Didn't think it was a legit possibility but that's pretty awesome. Dame's as loyal as they come and it's great that he doesn't care to just shamelessly ring chase for the rest of his career.

I'm not sure on that. Shams said Portland and Milwaukee will be combining to pay him 70m a year. Yucky

Only capwise. Actual money is still the same

I don’t think it works that way. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

No, that calculation is far off. I read up on it a little while ago & scanned a bit just now. I believe we get back half the difference between a minimum contract and what he signed for per year. So it's more like 14 - 4 = 10/2 = 5. Our cap is now around 5m lower the next couple yrs.

And I also read it's first usable in the following offseason. So I think that applies then in the 2027 offseason too. In '28 our cap situation becomes trickier w/ the full dead cap of Dame, Turner's ascending #'s, the extensions of our young players, & a #2 option we pick up between now & then.

Thank you! I forgot that the difference between the vet min and what he signed matters, and never knew that number was divided by 2 because..... reasons? Thanks for the clarification though!

So PDX is paying him $20m a year as a thank you? Wonder if we would've approached him first if he would've taken this haircut on the buyout.

Good for everyone involved imo. I think he probably regretted not just staying there and making it work.

Good for Dame, good for Portland. Happy for him and Portland fans. He should have never left that franchise.

Always happy when stars show loyalty to the team that drafted them.

Classy move by Dame! Glad he’s back where he wants to be.

I don't think anyone can be upset by this, good for all involved.

I'm sure Dame will be happy to be back.

As loyal as they come? A couple years ago he was demanding a trade to Miami.

Dame to Tatum: "Thanks but no thanks"
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Good for Dame. Wish it worked out differently but he is 3 years from living on a resort for the rest of his life. Nice perk we shed a few million

Weird takeaway. So if our front office went to Giannis and said "sorry G, we're rebuilding around younger players and not trading away any more draft picks", and Giannis then asked for a trade, you'd be first in line to call him disloyal then, right?

He can make it work better cuz he left, since they got to accumulate more assets & develop the youth in-between.

Took his 2-yr ring chasing vacation in sunny Milwaukee, & it didn't work out for a combo of injuries, attitude, and deficiencies.

Is this the case with every buy out situation or case by case negotiated with the player when they accept a buy out? I'm under the impression it's the later but could be wrong.

Maybe Dame also realized seeing Giannis stay was the right move for him and made him further realize he shouldn’t have left
