Also, this shouldn't be right. Surely Milwaukee didn't waive the right of set off with the stretch waiver. They didn't buy him out...it was just a straight waive...

I don't think that's true. I'm think Dame is getting his 54M salary next season. His salary from Portland won't be added on top. Maybe I'm wrong

If his Portland salary is offsetting his Milwaukee salary, then why wouldn't he sign for the vet min?

I was a bit against Lillard returning at this time out of worry that he will be the worse defender in the league when he returns from injury and demand big minutes, but I’d be lying if I wasn’t excited about the news.

yeah that is what I don't get. So maybe he did not have offset language in his contract?

It's MLE and he gets to retire a Blazer.

who cares, so we now have Jrue and Dame when he comes back - wonder how Scoot and Shae feel. Also if he really wanted back he should take a couple mil per yr

Jrue will probably be an assistant coach by the time Dame comes back.

How long until he demands a trade to Miami again?

hugepatsfan wrote:He's gonna sell this as him still being loyal to POR yet they had to go to this stupid contract number to get him from contenders. And in his first POR stint he kept extending and talking about loyalty but then after he signed the last extension with POR he requested a trade at the first possible minute he was eligible to be traded. Why? Because that last extension carried him through enough years of service where staying with his current team didn't matter anymore since he'd be eligible for the 35% of the cap max anywhere.

In summary, he stayed in POR only until it was no longer financially advantageous to do so and ran out of there at the last possible second, even trying to hurt the return POR got for him. And then once negotiating from a position of weakness he seemingly convinced the team that he'd come back for good PR for them if they paid him more than anyone else would. And the whole time he's marketing himself as loyal to the them. This guy is an all time hustler.

I agree with your take, it he really wanted to come back to or take a few mil per year, I thought we were done with no D guards, I was wrong

Portland just hired him out for 2 seasons, tanked and got a bunch of assets.

If Shae/Scoot play well this season, then we can ship Jrue out.

They would have the assets and easier to match salary this time I believe.

I like it. Not that much money for a player like Dame and he is a legend there. Blazers aren't real good and it provides some distraction for the fans. If he comes back in 2026-27 he could go to a contender in a trade, who knows.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
