A big part of the issue with Embiid has always been that the organization tanked to get him (and others), which makes the organziation overvalue the players obtained as part of "the process," and the players involved certainly "feel" that as well. I suspect those aren't the most optimal conditions for player development. A good argument for why losing on purpose to obtain high draft picks is certainly effective from a "simple math" standpoint, but perhaps not from a human factors one.
