Why? I respect the hell out this decision. He tried to go after a ring with another star and it didn't work out. He could have ended his career ring chasing like a lot of others before, but instead is going to the retire with the team he'll always be remembered with and be closer to his kids.

Agreed. I think LeBron's championship in Cleveland is one of the NBA's greatest stories.

But I don't think Dame went back for the franchise. There were rumors he was unhappy here being away from his family. He tried to ring chase but he realized it was more important to be with his kids. It's hard not to respect his decision to be a dad.

The fact that he chose to just go back to Portland also probably shows how exaggerated this whole "he only wanted to be in Miami" thing was.

My understanding is that the offset credit that the Bucks receive only reduces the Bucks luxury tax payment, but does not impact the team's salary cap status at all.

The offset is calculated at the end of the basketball year and does not roll over into the next season. So the offset improves the Bucks cash on hand balance but does not create any increased flexibilty with respect to roster changes.

Any hate for Dame is weird. He busted his ass for this city and it didn't work out. On top of that he didn't go to Boston or something, Dame went back to his kids.

Now if they could cut Jrue so we could sign him that would be great.

Bobby Marks breaks it down. It reduces our cap hit by $2.3mm per year. But we still pay him the full cash.

Amazing how well Portland and Dame came out of this. We basically gave Portland Jrue and control of our draft from 2028 to 2030, and took a cap anchor of $20mm for five seasons for the right to rent Dame for two years. Plus of course the actual $113 million cash our owners have to pay.

The Bucks fan in me is devastated with how the Dame trade went for us. The NBA fan in me thinks this is a cool development.

The set-off isn't much but every bit counts as we found out this summer
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

:banghead:

fast forward two years and they have jrue and dame for what they were paying dame to begin with. plus our picks. plus whatever they got for jrue to boston i dont remember all it was......nuts!

my takeaway is if dame were to talk to giannis does this make giannis more or less likely to stay or take a flyer of his own. i know as a bucks fan id be all over resigning giannis at dames age if he was rehabbing a carer threatening injury. this is a nice story for portland fans

Happy for Dame.

I did a quick mock up of what he will look like in a Blazers jersey. #exclusive

He's gotten quite a bit wrong about the Bucks offseason so far.

He's claiming it's 2.3/yr for 5 yrs cuz he got stretched to 5 yrs. But from my understanding & other cap gurus like Keith Smith, that cap relief/payout only takes place during Dame's original contract term, which was 2 seasons. So it's more like 5 (or closer to 6th if it's calculated off the regular minimum but not vet minimum Dame could have gotten otherwise) for each of those 2 seasons instead.

IDK whether 5-6 the next 2 yrs vs. 2.3 each year for the next 5 is more favorable. Right now the 1st seems better, like having Dame stretched for 22.5 instead of paying 50-60, but we could use the $ later more. In a perfect world we'd backload it all.

And I think the amount the Bucks owe to Lillard is reduced by over double the set off for the cap. Marks didn't mention anything about this either way in the Tweet.

I get that it's a nice story for Dame and Blazers fans and I don't want to rain on their parade but I think the part where he just tore his Achilles and probably will be 36 before he takes the court in an NBA game again is being a little overlooked.

I'm not sure it matters considering it's Portland. I feel like he could come back as a half-there sixth man and he'd still draw fan support. Portland's not going anywhere during this contract anyway.

In a league where there are only 3-6 teams that can win a title, this was very much a “Lakers maxing out late career Kobe” type move. Not that Portland maxed him, but its more a nostalgia move than a basketball move. And thats ok. Who else were they going to sign?

Sure, but if we would have dealt Dame at the deadline, we'd have been golden. Tough to predictable catastrophic injury though.

FVV and Tari Eason would look great about now. But onward we go. At least Giannis is still sailing on the ship he helped build. That counts for a lot.
