End of the day, Portland is a team that wants to try and get better and push for the play in and they just added a guy who is the best or second best at worst player on their team for 2nd round picks and they don’t project to be in the luxury tax for any year of his contract. I understand why fans would not like it because everyone is obsessed with timelines and every player on their team being 25 or younger, but I get why an actual NBA team did this.

As per Fischer, Raptors offered RJ Barrett and 9th pick for Jrue Holiday but Celtics declined.

This is crazy from Raptors  I sometimes seriously doubt their basketball acumen.
Celtics for once saved Raptors from themselves

I'm pretty sure this got mixed up and they offered Barrett and #9 for Derrick White, which makes a whole lot more sense. There were reports that they pursued White pretty heavily.

There was probably discussions over a Barrett for Jrue swap but I can't imagine that the Raptors offered #9 and that C's didn't snap accept (if anything C's might have been add incentive going the other way given the extra year on Jrue's deal).

If it was for Derrick White then it make sense. However, you cannot discount the brain freeze of Raptors Front office. They have made scores of bad to worst decisions, so what is to say that they really meant Jrue Holiday as the report suggests?

I mean, this just what Detroit and Houston did recently when they brought in good vets for the stated purpose of adding experience, leaderahip and most importantly being good mentors and role models, so the younger guys could pick up good (winning and professional) habits, on the court and off it

It worked well for both

Portland's goal in the upcoming season is to their competitive level, up a notch.try to sneak into the play-in or even the playoffa while still developing their younger guys.

Trading for a super vet like Jrue is probably the best way to do it and they were particularly thin at PG, they don't have a single proven, Nba starter level player..Scoot might develop into one and he..might not, what'a certain is he isn't one right now

great trade
