Gun to head, , who out of this group would you sign with our BAE? Since other teams would only be offering vet minimum.

$42 million was enough for Portland to land Lillard for 3yrs. Sounds like they got a bargain.

Really? Achilles is no joke. Especially at his age. And size. At least Durant is basically a 7footer. Dame gonna have a hard time i think.

It's kind of crazy to have a guy like that be your long term franchise player.... give him the massive supermax extension and then grant his wish to be traded on that massive contract actually getting some really good assets back for him (Jrue).... and then to be able to get him back 2 years later at MLE $ instead of having to pay him the nearly $60 million per year he would have had remaining on his previous deal.

Portland gets a chance to have him retire a Blazer on the cheap most likely. I could see this 3 year deal being his last in the NBA since he's 35 already and he seems less likely to be one of those guys to play into his 40s like LeBron, Steph or CP3 IMO.

Ehh. He had an Achilles injury about a month ago and he’s 35. I get why they did it, but it feels like market rate at best. And influenced by his history there

I am not sure I would even pay 3 years $21 mil. Dude won't play at an elite level after 35 and coming off major injury.

From personal experience Achilles definitely is no joke. Had mine reattached in August. Still rehabbing.

There's a case to be made that KD was the best player in the world in 2021, and he sure played like it before getting eliminated against the bucks.

But KD is an anomaly gifted with great height/length, an achilles tear has historically been a career ender for role players or starting caliber players, or an end to stardom for all stars/superstar caliber players.

Love to see Dame back in Portland though and I hope he gets back to at least 80% of what he was pre-injury

I tore mine while grabbing a rebound. Within about 8 months, I was at full strength doing everything I used to do.

It would be pretty much unprecedented for an undersized, athleticism-dependent player like Lillard to return from an age-34 Achilles injury and not be an empty shell of his former self. An Achilles injury isn't a matter of whether or not an NBA player will lose some athleticism but rather how much he'll lose; everyone loses something.

Players who depend upon their athleticism are the most vulnerable to loss, and degree of recovery is generally inversely proportional with age. If Lillard loses a significant degree of his athleticism -- and margins are VERY small in the NBA; even a minor loss can have a big impact -- then he'll return as at least as much (if not more) a defensive liability as he was before his injury but with nowhere near his previous degree of offensive impact.

Kobe tore his Achilles at about the same age. He was First-Team All-NBA in that season. He came back from his injury as one of the worst players in the league.

Haglund's deformity for me. Basically a tree-like bone spur grew from my heel into the base of my Achilles. They severed, cleared the spur and reattached. I'm still rebuilding strength in my upper calf that is a precursor to running / cutting / jumping almost a year later. Progress has been slowed at times due to other issues flaring up (back/bulging disc, knee) trying to compensate.

I've basically had to completely rebuild / relearn how to walk on my left leg from the ground up. But I'm getting there.

I tore mine in 1998. Career ender. Took 3 years to jog again.

Reporting is saying there were at least a dozen other teams making offers to Lillard, I think he has a chance to still make a worthwhile contribution those final 2 seasons beyond next year.

My friend a few years ago tore both knees doing squats while training. Then, his girlfriend left him while he was waiting surgery as she ended up being a gold digger and couldn't deal with it. Talk of relearning to walk sounds bad. Moral of the story, could be a lot worse.

Marcus Smart gets bought out, signs with Lakers.

What a shame. He would have been a perfect fit here. Would have salvaged the offseason.

How would an undersized off-guard with a shaky shot have been a perfect fit here?

My biggest concern is shooting for this offseason- we lost an awful lot of it and are banking on new faces to replace what we lost.

Improved three point shooting was such a massive part of our improvement this offseason.

Marcus Smart would do nothing to address that.
