At this point I’d be surprised to see Middleton or McCollum on the team opening night. Dawkins is doing all he can to win proof us. No way he’s screwing up the tank.

I doubt it. I think he wants a few vets to guide the youngsters. At least with Middleton, they can keep his minutes down and say that they're load managing him to keep him healthy for a mid-season trade.

It'll be interesting to see if, and for how long, McCollum is the starter. I'm sure they're eager to start both Bub and Tre.

Dawkins was interviewed during one of the summer league games court side and was gushing about their veteran leadership and what it meant to the young guys. Maybe he was just blowing smoke up they asses but I got the impression he meant it

Either Branham or Dillon Jones are getting cut during training camp, if Anthony Gill is definitely returning.

Is that confirmed? I'd rather keep Brahman and Jones over Gill.

Just me speculating. I never expected Wesley nor Branham to make this Wizards team. They are going to have to grind it out in the G-League. Spurs gave them every opportunity to claim minutes and they just weren't good enough. Branham might make it to training camp, but if he's on the roster come opening night, I will be surprised. Like I could see them cutting him and bringing back Jared Butler to be a third string PG, for example.

And Dillon Jones, I don't believe he has a long-term future in this league. His best case scenario is to try and figure out how to play like PJ Tucker, after he returned from Europe.

That would make sense from a roster standpoint, but I don’t know if they want to pay the added cost of Gill’s salary.

If it's a vet minimum, wouldn't most of the salary be paid by the League anyway? I haven't checked where their salaries in relation to the luxury tax. If they're hell-bent on staying below in another tanking year, then maybe Gill is gone. I just thought organizationally they really like the guy.

I think Gill gets an offer from a Euro team. I know they like him as a presence in the locker room but he was the first one cut in the offseason. If he retires they might bring him in as a player development coach. He’s still got a solid rep in Euro play apparently though.

Assuming it hasn't changed under the new CBA, the Wizards would pay the cost of a the vet salary for a 2-year vet, and the additional cost of Gill being a 5-year vet would be borne by the league. So he would cost the Wizards $2.46M, and the league would pay an additional $0.41M

We went into the draft w/ picks at 6, 18 and 40 but wound up picking at 6, 21 and 43.

I no longer recall how 18 and 40 turned into 21 and 43. Will someone please remind me -- thanks!

forget it -- i looked it up
