Re: Brewers 2025 Discussion - Mis an All-star
Watched an ESPN piece on the second half of the season. They went on and on about the NL "Big 4". Phillies, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers.
We have a better record than the Phillies and Mets. 1/2 behind the Dodgers, 1 behind the Cubs. I get sucking up to big markets/viewers but ESPN can go **** themselves.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Its pretty ridiculous. Crazy combo of ID'ing untapped talent and getting to come out.
(I really hope we don't find out they are cheating in some way, because if I were a fan of another team it would be a question Id be asking)

Almost feels like they could piece together two solid rotations if healthy.
Cortes has been a little better than Peralta the last ~5 years.
Henderson started his career arguably even better than Les Mis on an inning-per-WAR basis.
Patrick and Priester have been almost exactly the same this year.
Gasser showed a lot of Quintana-like qualities in limited action last year.
Tobias last season was almost as good as a typical Woodruff year, though he might never replicate that.
Ashby and Hall might still pan out as good starters one day, if given the chance.

Small market and the lack of stars hurts us here imo.

Hopefully he does better this time around than last. Had a good month so far in Triple A.

Really believe this will be the call up that results in Tyler Black getting a hit.

Maybe they're stealing signs like the Astros. If you know what type of pitch you're supposed to throw, that's a huge advantage.

Jim Bowden (I don't think he knows anything, but)
The Brewers are focused on improving the left side of their infield, either at shortstop or third base, with an impact bat. They are among the teams who could be in play for the Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suárez, along with the Rockies’ Ryan McMahon and even the Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado, who has a full no-trade clause. They would like an offensive upgrade at shortstop, where Joey Ortiz has struggled, and they’ve been linked to two speedy Marlins infielders, Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez.

Re: Brewers 2025 Discussion - Mis an All-star
That would be an interesting move by the Marlins. I get that this new regime is maybe even more focused on building the farm system and that the Marlins probably will never be big spenders, but they've got a little something going.
The Marlins would be right to keep building with these guys, though neither has the full skillset to be a superstar. Conversely, guys like Edwards and Lopez are both the caliber hitter that I wouldn't even bet a ton of money to be a better player than Ortiz in August-October if we can trust that Joey is kind of back as a hitter.

Otto Lopez in particular feels very Brewersy. Has already been worth 3 WAR on B-Ref. A decent but not great hitter who provides a ton of value with his glove.

Any power hitting utility types available? I feel like that might be their best upgrade.

Eugenio Suárez is the cream of the crop. I'd be wary of significant home and away splits.
He'd be a rental.
