Blazers/Bulls/Lakers (w/o picks)

Post#1 » by magee » Sun Jul 20, 2025 4:42 pm

This trade could have picks if needed.

Blazers trade: Jerami Grant, Kris Murray
Blazers receive: Jevon Carter, Julian Phillips, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent (waive Duop Reath to complete deal, unless Carter is waived by Bulls before trade to make sure it's complete)

Bulls trade: Jevon Carter, Julian Phillips, Dalen Terry
Bulls receive: Maxi Kleber, Dalton Knecht, Kris Murray (waive one player before deal, or waive Carter before completing trade)

Lakers trade: Maxi Kleber, Dalton Knecht, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent
Lakers receive: Jerami Grant, Dalen Terry

Reasons for Blazers: get off Jerami Grant's deal and add some roster balancing to compliment the depth the team has behind Toumani Camara and Deni Avdija. They probably waive Gabe Vincent unless they want the depth at PG for this season with Vincent as the third PG. Lowers the team's future money in the next two years without Grant, allowing flexibility for Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe's eventual respective extensions. Give up on late first rounder Kris Murray and give Julian Phillips a chance at cracking the rotation behind Sharpe and Camara, pending he can beat out matisse Thybulle for playing time.

Reasons for Bulls: addition by subtraction. They three players traded away wouldn't see much playing time with the current Bulls roster, so they take a shot on seeing if Knecht plays better with a bit of a confidence boost in a new environment. Their future money is about the same going into next summer as it is right now, allowing them more flexibility in case they decide not to sign Giddey to a longer contract this year and wait to see how he plays out his contract year.

Reasons for Lakers: they turn their eventual cap space into a PF who compliments Luka's skillset and fits both behind and next to LeBron, as well as Rui Hachimura. He's solid enough from 3 to be a decent floor spacer in bigger lineups and guard the smaller guards on defense in those lineups. Outside of maybe Vanderbilt, they trade away three guys who wouldn't see much playing time for one who fits in right away, while giving the Lakers a couple roster spots to work with. They save just enough to allow for a deadline deal to take place, either as buyers or sellers.

Thoughts?

If I'm Portland, I'd cut the Bulls out and deal directly with the Lakers.

Grant, Murray, & Reath for Vanderbilt, Klieber, Vincent, & Knecht.

The only way the Bulls are in this deal is if they give Portland back their first, otherwise, I think the Blazers just cut them out and deal with the Lakers directly.

Good to move Grant even if most of the incoming pieces are probably cut.

I get it. The main reason Chicago is in it is for Knecht. If they feel he could play next to Matas and help space the floor, they'd play him off the bench over Phillips and Terry.

Knecht wouldn't see the court for Portland unless he's given some spot minutes as a shooter, because that's Portland's main weakness coming into the season.

That would probably be what the Blazers ask for in return for Chicago getting Knecht.

Sorry but no interest in Grant. He performed bad vs Lakers and most Laker fans are not interested.

Lakers said they are valuing flexibility, Grant is the antithesis of that...

I doubt very much they do it for Grant. I wanted Williams but then did research his out with Surgery, so no longer want Williams. I just don't see it happening for Grant.

Don’t see what Chicago is adding here that’s worth a recent first who played decently enough... Even one in low on. Without Chicago, Portland still gets expirings, gets to keep Murray and either they get Dalton or LA gets to keep him..

And LA seems to be banking on free agency either next year or the year after. Cant see them bailing Portland out of this, even though Portland is getting nothing of value as is.

And Grant would be the 4th PF on the roster behind LeBron, Rui and Laravia. Replace him with Thybulle and this atleast makes some sense.

What? Why would Grant be behind Laravia?

I can't imagine someone who isn't a Bulls fanatic proposing this

They give up the 12th-14th guys on the bench and get a pair of very recent FRP's who I don't think have been declared out of talent or potential and yeah Kleber to get cut. The Bulls profusely thank the other teams, grab their guys and run for home.

Not for POR it doesn’t. A bunch of scrubs for Grant is fine as long as some expire.

Expiring Thybulle for scrubs that do not expire is not worth doing.

There needs to be a reason to include Chicago then. As my pal said, give aportland back their pick. Otherwise, Chicago doesn't need to be a part of this trade.

They are all best playing the 4 and we don’t need that significant chunk of our cap spent at that position when we have glaring weaknesses at the wing.

I’m fine with that overall, it was specifically the idea of him being behind Laravia that I was questioning. Grant is the better player of the 2.
