The Celtics can't take on an XL salary like Sabonis. They'd be right back to too few guys eating up too much cap space. That's how this whole mess started.

Ben Simmons near the minimum is feasible but not very appealing.

Jake Fischer:

"I don't think Boston is calling around trying to move Anfernee Simons right now," he added. "I just think he and his representation are very aware that the Celtics are not married to having him start the season in green and white, but they'd be very happy and willing to do so if that's the case."

Hal there has already been 4-5 sets of rumors about the Celtics wanting to move Simons with the latest one being to Memphis. The Celtics do want Simons. Pretty clear.

It's 1 rumor that a few different reporters all piggy back on top of each other with.

Memphis is the one and only team we have heard about from a semi-legit source as a potential trade partner. And Brett Siegel said those were old conversations:

Sham, Stein, Fischer etc. have been saying the Celtics are looking to move Simons since the day the Celtics have traded for him. Celtics don't want Simons. They only acquired him to get off of Jrue Holiday's contract.

No thanks to Simmons. Just play Walsh, Hugo and Minott.
If they sign him and trade Niang away then whatever.

Just take out Queta and the two first round picks. Then I'm fine with it.
I'd also be fine with Simons straight up for Malik Monk, but if the Kings were willing to do that it would have been done already.

I would be all over the proposed Sabonis trade. That is exactly the type of move the Celtics need to be pursuing. At some point people need to stop worrying about money and start worrying about winning basketball games. Celtics could make that trade and still avoid the second apron

That’s a good trade for both sides. People here would be pissed because it would blow up the multi year tank dream but the deal makes sense.

He’s also 29…so I’m not sure how we are considering that the back end of someone’s career now.

Interesting. A poor man's Amari Williams. If he's willing to play that role, is the question.

He’s 29, has led the league in rebounding 3 straight years and has been as durable as you can expect from a big. Plenty of tread on the tires

But at well into the $40 millions per year, he undoes the cost cutting that was the season's original mandate.

If cash were such a problem the Celtics would not be kicking the tires on guys like Dame and Ben Simmons.

Simons (28) - Hauser (10) - Niang (8) - Neems (2) = 48 total

Sabonis - 44

Granted you need to fill some of the open roster spots but still… Trade is a wash money wise and none of the cost cutting would be undone.

I've said it before on here. I want KCP no where near the Celtics. One of my closest friends knows him personally. Let's just say he is not a good character guy. Basketball in not a priority for him. I will leave it at that. He wears his welcome out where ever he goes.

I'm not interested in promoting rumor, and have no idea why your friend's opinion is so negative, but of course character is important. I started googling KCP and google suggested "kentavious caldwell-pope ankle monitor" as a search.

I forgot all about that. It was back in 2017.

He seemed like a solid pro in Denver. The part about basketball not a priority is concerning, for whatever reason. The Celtics locker room morale will likely need every advantage it can get next season.

Sounds like he also blew off some of his legal obligations stemming from the incident: https://www.basketballnetwork.net/old-school/remember-when-kcp-played-with-an-ankle-monitor

It's more than that. I won't give details. All I can continue to say I don't want him near the Celtics, their players, coaches, etc. Not the best character guy. Won't say more.
