introducing moderator enforced mandatory positivity in the midst of a 3 year slide from 43-27-21-19 wins with minimal talent accumulation over that period is certainly a growth strategy. seems more fitting for reddit than here though

Well I appreciate you at least being transparent and proving my original point.
I'd personally argue that the dwindling numbers around here are more a product of terrible on floor product than negative posts, but that's just me
The team being bad leads to less overall activity, but we (the mods) have gotten more than a few complaints about the overly negative lean of the board in the past and we know that posters have quit for that reason, not the teams performance. The team being bad doesn't make people (generally) stop being fans, but the board being toxic does make people leave and go somewhere else whether the team is bad or good.
The whole point of posting on a message board over regular social media is the community aspect. Posters continually being overly negative about everything damages the community aspect. It's no longer enjoyable to post (or read) if the space turns more or less into doomscrolling.
That reads an awful lot like "echo chamber" instead of "community". Treading into very dangerous territory with that sort of precedent.
There's a difference between being overly critical on say the OKC or Lakers Board and being overly critical on the Hornets Board.

Do you disagree with the points made?
There is no echo chamber, people on here have always had various takes on various issues. And for what it's worth, the Hornets board on RealGM is (or used to be) one of the bigger/more active boards on this website. We get a lot more activity than the OKC or Lakers board.
The frustration, more than anything, with the overly negative stuff is it's as if some of you just want to be negative for the sake of being negative and downplay/troll anything positive while you're at it.
But from an objective standpoint this team is as well positioned as it's been in years.
No bad contracts. (No Gordon's, or Batums)
Lots of draft picks.
A few interesting young players.
Good depth (at least at guard/wing)
Owners who seem to care (the Swarm are actually decent, we just won our first SL title, they invest in the infrastructure etc.)
A coach and GM who (even if they talk like corporate car salesman) seem to have a vision/plan.
It's entirely plausible we're competitive next season, especially considering how bad the East is. We're positioned to make a move, eventually, for someone who can be a difference maker. We may (hopefully) get healthy, and on paper we should be better able to cope even if we aren't.
Now, if that will work out or not is an entirely different discussion. The entire team injured again. We may make a move that fails. The draft picks may not be good and so on.
But it's the middle of the offseason, so we have no idea which lane the team will fall into. There's no reason to act like the sky is falling (yet), but some of you guys seem to think it's already fallen.

Don't spam the same negative takes over and over and no one cares about pretty much any opinion. The strongest pushback you'll get is a question about the support for the take.
We're not going around saying "no negative opinions."
clear difference between spamming negative takes and spamming positive ones
I challenge you to point to anyone that spams positive takes on this board.
That's my point. No one is going around saying "Everything we do is great and is definitely going to work, people should be happy because it's so clear that this plan is working."
By contrast, it's very easy to see the repetitive "They have no idea what they're doing, the coach is a moron, the FO isn't even trying to get better, the owners don't even want to get better" without any nuance and shotgunned across threads.

There is no moderator enforced positivity. No one is saying anyone should change their opinion, and if constant spammed positive takes were an actual problem (which they are not), that would be addressed as well.

To everyone, Re: negative posts.
If it starts to just bleed into single thread with comments that add absolutely no value other than to just be negative, that's a completely different story, and quickly devalues the conversation and the quality of the board.
No one is suggesting that we all agree. Different viewpoints are valuable. No one is suggesting that you can't criticize any aspect of the organization or their decisions. No one expects this to be a Kumbaya hand holding ceremony 24/7. If you have disagreements about what another poster says or disagreements about a decision made by the organization, then articulate your criticisms, argue your point and then move on. Don't attack posters for their viewpoints positive or negative. Don't make it personal. And don't spam posts repeating the same opinion over and over without providing anything new.
I think we're all mature enough to understand what constitutes valuable contributions from just angry repetitive shitposting. I think everyone on this board understands when they're towing the line between what's acceptable and unacceptable posting behavior. Let's try to be better as a community.

Maybe but doubtful, I'd assume Diabate would start over him. Honestly I'd have about the same level of confidence in him starting as I would in Kalkbrenner starting. He's 26 and has never been a meaningful contributor to a rotation on anything resembling a consistent basis. Last year he played more than 20 minutes in a game 7 times.

Do you disagree? Just because you feel something to be true, doesn't make it actual truth. A fact is that the team has been very bad for a long time. An off-season or two ago I got bored and ran some numbers-- Charlotte, Wolves, Kings and maybe Portland were the least successful teams over a decade and a half or two of data. The wolves and kings have both had success since I posted that, so the gap has widened.
It is my opinion that the Hornets are less hopeless now than they were then. From my observations, the franchise under Jeff Peterson has made systematic adjustments and seem to be sticking to a plan. Some of the moves are headscratchers, which I am personally okay with, because I think a front office making it's desired moves transparent is actually a disadvantage. You don't get a good deal when everyone knows what you want to do. Also, I think it takes time to build a sustainability successful franchise, so I'm okay being patient as long as there is gradual improvement.
It is my opinion that the center issue isn't as big of an issue as some of you when I look at this roster. They aren't going to win the finals this year, so I'm not worried about how they stop Jokic. I think the team is long and switchy and will be an offensive powerhouse, which plays to the strengths of their best players. The franchise that the current group took over had a scarcity of assets. This off-season, Jeff Peterson's first where he's had an entire season to evaluate what he inherited, they addressed a lack of shooting. I don't think it's stupid to pump the brakes at this point and see how that shifts things. How does the offense look? Hopefully improved, otherwise maybe Lee IS a problem. Can LaMelo stay healthy?
The board just finished up a fun Summer League run, but it seems like the posters on my ignore list are still miserable. Preseason is a bit away still, so there won't be much for many of us to discuss as far as hoops go. Some of you have no patience, okay. We know, you've repeatedly, in each thread that exists, made your stale point. This post, like many posts I've typed over the years, was nearly deleted, because who cares, but whatever.

Could it be those posters don't actually care who post positive comments?
I would probably consider myself on the side who is more negative than positive, but people do post positive comments daily. It's not about singling them out it's about actually doing your own research as mods and recognizing it does happen. Some posters just like positivity. I get it and respect it.
But it seems like the mods are trying to put all the blame on the negative posters and that's just not fair imo. You call it negative posting some of us call it accountability.
Again I ask what the hell should we be posting positive content daily when this franchise has been bottom of the barrel for years. Are you asking us to embrace a losing culture?
I just can't understand as a true diehard fan. I'm tired of losing bro. I'm going to be negative when it's called for.
Also as much as I'm negative, I always take accountability when players play well. I was called out on the Kon stuff after his 1st game. Go back and look at my comments about Kon since that game. It's all been positive comments.
I'm a fair minded fan.

Re: Hornets hire Jeff Peterson as Head of Basketball Ops.
I love this board, and love reading all the comments and opinions. Agree it can get extreme, and I’ve had a tirade or two (or twenty) over the years. But you guys are like family in some ways. We all hang out, celebrate together, mourn together. We all want the same thing, but just like a bunch of brothers, can often find ways to disagree on how we all get there.
The new owners are better than any we’ve had prior. Investing in better people, better facilities, a SL championship, good direction, it’s real improvement. My gripe is at center, fearful they will stunt this team as a result.
I want every draft pick to succeed. This team can’t take more failures like Bouk, Kai, et all. Encouraged by nominal progress from Tiddy, good progress by KJ. Hope for healthy players this year. Hope for Melo to really build strength, make a commitment to being great.

Re: Hornets hire Jeff Peterson as Head of Basketball Ops.
I don't think there's actually anyone on here who is overly positive. I think we have people who are negative, and deservingly so, and I think we have people that have trended towards neutral.
I was very critical of this organization under Jordan over the past 3 years of his tenure.
I've tried it back towards neutral. To some of you that probably looks positive because it's a different place than where I was 18 months ago. And a different place from where you are now. I would hardly call my posting on this board overly positive.
And yes jb
I did notice that you had changed your stance on kon post summer league.
And the point I tried to make in my previous thread is you can still be very critical of the organization, with well thought out and reasonable responses. What I take issue with and I think what some others take issue with is being negative just for negative sake. Reacting to any comment or any news regardless of thread with some troll level negative comment that provides absolutely no value. Or just repeating the same negative opinion ad nauseam..
Questioning people's level of how much they care about this team if they have a positive opinion is a bit of a low blow. Anyone that takes the time to talk about the Hornets on a f****** Message Board obviously cares deeply about this team. So no I don't agree with that comment.

A lot of painting with broad brushes here
I'd love to see some examples/evidence of this:
And this:
It honestly just comes off as hypocritical. There's no need to manufacturer or manifest negativity. "Scoreboard".
It's like Walt and JDR going "yeah I'm not that concerned with the front court". I shouldn't have to defend my negativity towards what they've done. It's not an outlier position. However, it is "tired and stale" to say they've sunk another (third) year in the name of sustainable building and their front court is Plumlee, Moussa, and Kalk. They're two years from being two years away. But I'm the **** if I say it.
What was the new one JDR just dropped? They aren't going to be good anyway so it doesn't matter if the center rotation sucks. This is how apathetic and accepting of **** product some of you have become.
Look at what San Antonio has done over the past two/three years, Houston, Washington, all these other teams. And I'm getting called out for negativity for pointing out that adding Tiddy, Nipples, and Sexton as your marque additions is not needle moving to be kind.

I guess? If I had a terminal illness I think I'd dump the Hornets and the board pretty quickly to prioritize spending my time with my family and friends before I reached my expiration date. I'll be 40 in a few weeks, so I guess I'm about halfway there or so, but I don't expect the Hornets to win an NBA title in my lifetime, i just want to be entertained when I get to tune in for a couple of hours. For years, that was a big ask apparently because they were dreadfully boring. Things are trending upwards.
I see that you want results. I think that's pretty vague. Is it all or nothing? Is it improvement? What is improvement? What results do you expect between summer League and preseason?
I disagree that the "positive posters" are the only people complaining daily.
I don't think the board is nearly as fun as it has been in the past. I took a long hiatus and rarely post because it is less enjoyable. It has become better as I have taken advantage of the ignore list, but I went nearly two decades without using it at all. I don't expect the board to be one synchronous thought, i really like in most aspects of life attempting to understand opinions that I don't arrive at naturally. I would also point out that I don't think the board needs daily posts for the sake of posts. Lulls in the off season are natural. I regularly second guess if a post is actually worth posting. I assume the same is true for you, but I don't know that as a fact.
I've seen you mentioning "accountability". Jeff Peterson isn't reading this board, so who are you holding accountable?

It would be a lot less argumentative and aggressive to do just that.
Why portray yourself as having some line on the absolute truth?
You don't.
