And Ryan (Kalkbrenner) has been awesome out here (Summer League). We think he’ll shoot it eventually too,” a Hornets coach said.

Too funny.

My great remaining fear is that they really believe all that crap they just spewed in that article. Never underestimate the ability of a coach or GM to OVERESTIMATE their own judgement. Ignoring the obvious because you believe in your own amazing analysis, regardless of what analysts and players everywhere are saying about the situation.

NOTE how none of Coach Lee’s (my bet on who said all 5is) comments mention DEFENSE, or SHOT BLOCKING.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Blowhards.

We have all these tough decisions to make.

Next breath: we really don't have any decisions to make at all.

Best summer league we have ever had.

I remember when we couldn't win a game despite having a bunch of high draft picks on the roster.

The bar probably maxes out at 75 people haha, would be great if 500 show up.
Used to be one my lunch spots before I started working from home.

I think it's hilarious. I hope a big massive crowd ironically shows up and celebrates. I hope some Hornets players catch wind and show up for the photo ops. And then a news station shows up and throws it on tv. Viral.

If Duke basketball beats a top 10 team they're not storming the court. But if Queens College beats a top 10 team, hell yeah they're running on to the court.

Have fun with it.

Maybe I should make an unranked list of my top 50 summer league guys, that adds a lot of value....

They seemed higher on Kalk than I think is reasonable, but they're also really high on Liam and Kon.

I don't think I've ran across any draft people who disliked Charlotte's draft.

Also generally agree about Sion. His NBA role isn't suited for Summer League, so I'm not that concerned about him.

Honestly the only place I have found that isn't overwhelmingly positive about the Hornets draft is ironically this board. Every single other place I go to look at NBA discussions whether it's Hornet specific, NBA draft specific or just generally - reddit, twiiter, youtube, substacks - has loved the Hornet's draft and people are overwhelmingly very high on kon. Even the ones that had doubts about him heading into the draft have mostly mentioned after summer league that a lot of their fears have been put to bed about his ability to hang athletically. not here. oh well... maybe one day; maybe not.

from keith smith... former realgm alum, used to give us his first hand stories of bobcats rumors from orlando summer league. that was fun.
https://www.spotrac.com/news/_/id/2912/eastern-conference-summer-league-notes

- This all seems to be from the Charles Lee interview for the most part.

Charlotte Hornets
On the draft: “We had the best draft in the league. Of course, 29 other teams will probably say the same thing,” a Hornets front office executive said. “But we’re fired up. We wanted guys who could complement LaMelo (Ball) and Brandon (Miller) and to help open up the floor for them. Kon (Knueppel) and Liam (McNeeley) can do that. But we didn’t want one-skill guys. We all saw Indiana and the Thunder, right? You have to be able to be versatile. We’re getting there. And we hit in the second round with Sion (James) and Ryan (Kalkbrenner) too. We considered both of them at 29, but knew that Liam wouldn’t come back around. So, we held our breath and still got both guys. Internally, we’ve said we feel like we have four first-rounders, because all four guys we got had first-round evaluations on our board.”

On a full roster: “Yeah. We’ve still got some work to do, for sure. That’s what the rest of this summer will be about. There are some difficult decisions coming, but that’s not bad thing, right? Better that than not having enough guys,” a Hornets front office executive said.

On frontcourt depth: “I get why you are asking. But we think we’ve got guys who can play. Mason (Plumlee) will help with his experience and his passing ability. We’ll have Grant (Williams) back and he’s a great connector. We love Moussa (Diabate). He plays with such great energy and he’s awesome on the glass. And Ryan (Kalkbrenner) has been awesome out here (Summer League). We think he’ll shoot it eventually too,” a Hornets coach said.

On LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller and their health: “Those guys are still our anchors, pillars, foundation, whatever you want to call it. But you are right, we have to get them on the floor. They played like 20 games together last year. That’s not going to cut it. We have to figure that out, and we’re confident we will. Our roster moves at the draft and beyond were about building around those two guys with complementary and connecting pieces to them,” a Hornets front office executive said.

All of that sounds reasonable and like they are not all starry eyed about the situation. Seems like it's a step by step process. Glad they are actually being systematic and not passive in the rebuild.

Kon and kj made summer league 2nd team. Seems fair. No beef with the selections... although I watched 0 mins of Clippers.

Summer league made Tiddy look like a better prospect than Knecht.

I am very happy with how our rookies performed for the most part. Kalk was an average big, but came up bigger in the championship game (rising to the occasion is always a good sign). Kon and Liam showed so much real skill, promise for how they could develop into key components. Sion was a bit of a reach very early second round and showed it. Hes got some tools, so Rx is a year of Swarm and see where he’s at then.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I just don't think SL is a place where Sion would shine anyway.
