I still view Smith as having more upside. AJAX, sure.

Save a year on Vincent for an extra year of Vanderbilt. Both are decent emergency options at guard and switchable big respectively. Both on tradeable sized deals and allows a bit more flexibility at deadline as we can aggregate if needed.

i think we'd need to include a pick swap with this? is the idea that theyd want to dump 3 years of vanderbilt for that 2027 summer and thats their inducement?

I doubt it. Kuz is the “best” player in this trade and has fit well previously with Lebron. If anything, I was thinking we could potentially get a 2nd or two back in it.

That Vanderbilt deal is pretty bad. It would take some 2nd rd picks and the ability to include Chicago in the deal to get Okoro for Vincent.

If the Bucks could trade...

Kuzma
Ajax

for

Knecht
Okoro
Vanderbilt

...w/o giving up picks that would be amazing. Imo.

AJAX has had a pretty disappointing last year but even still you could argue we're giving out the two "best" players in that. I'd hope we're getting something back.

I agree we should get a little additional compensation, but AJax is just not a NBA player. Game just moves too fast for him and he doesn’t have a position. He’s like a smaller, weaker Thanasis.

I'd happily do the Hachi/Knecht for Kuz deal. Would even give them the rights to Bogo, Smith, Ajax, whatever they want from that ilk. Hachi can shoot, is an OK defender & rebounder. Plus he's expiring. Knecht I think has some on ball juice. May flourish if his role expanded here.

It's a no on Vandy cuz you're adding an extra year of significant salary in comparison. And he's never been as good of a shooter as Kuz most seasons. I'd stand in that case.

Hachimura is a better player, with a better contract than Kuz. Can’t see getting him and last year’s first for Kuz and pupu platter if junk.

I agree, I'd happily take Rui but what's the angle from the Lakers' perspective?

I don't know if Hachimura gets assets back like Kuz would have reportedly netted from the Mavs season before last. That deal probably doesn't happen, but comes down to how you weight last season.

However, you could simplify it to Knecht for Ajax & Bogo's rights. The case for the Lakers is they shave a couple mill (or more if they waive him) in the apron era, get a better fit & free lotto ticket w/ no cap #. There are clear reasons to do it. Whether it's enough, you'd have to ask them.

Yeah smith is 3 years younger and has already shown more IMHO. Seems like he’s been working on his handle and shooting off the dribble even if it’s been a mixed bag.

ok..i can go with that. my initial thought was that this is strictly a finanical mov on both sides and knecht is the only dude with actual upside. i think whatever version of kuzma is the best player in the deal youd also argue that the finacial ramifications far outweight any other aspect. to me theyd maybe do this deal if knecht wasnt included? maybe add a 2nd or two?

I think it's a bad analysis. Knecht also probably fits better. And we know the alternative doesn't work.

Why would teams want to do about any trade under this calculation? Why did LAC trade us KPJ for Marjon, or NYK do Sims for Wright?

If the Bucks waive Ajax, does he get signed to a regular contract by another team?
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

if were taking back more money on worse players we should could care less about fit imo. kuzmas salary slot is perfect for "the big move" once its expiring and we have more picks available. i advocate patience

Agree that the deal works, but I'd probably try to find a 3rd team for Knect. I just don't believe in him.

The Lakers tried to get Kuzma back numerous times.

Unlike the Lakers, who are up against the Apron, we could take back significantly more salary in a Knecht 3 way deal. We could bring in roughly a $10 million player in the above proposal, and close to $15 million if we added Ajax to the deal.
