Golden Gate Bridges
GSW sign & trade Jonathan Kuminga (4yr x $24m)
NYK trade Mikal Bridges
GS would need to shed some salary, likely in the form of Hield+picks to a 3rd team for a cheaper player (WAS-Champagnie, UTA-Love, etc.)
NY might demand some more in return as well, which GS can pay in the form of draft capital or swapping some youth
Edit: i should clarify NY would demand some more return such as draft capital like 2 1sts?
But noone worried about him leaving in free agency. How can they pay him OG money?
NY does this to lock in a core of affordable contracts ahead of Bridges' 26 Free Agency, as well as elevate their ceiling with a much younger player who provides a different skillset as an attacker & strong finisher
Brunson - Anunoby - Kuminga - Hart - Towns
GS goes in the other direction & gives more life to the Curry era, with an all-star role player who brings exactly what this team needs on both ends
Curry - Podziemski - Bridges - Butler - Green

Why on earth would NYK downgrade for no incentive?

Only if New York kicks in Brunson

Re: Golden Gate Bridges
Kuminga is an RFA who’s role was not consistent and it’s not clear how much they want to keep him.
No idea why you think you get Bridges for him. If the Knicks want to reduce salary they can surely get better value than this while downgrading less.
Solid title though.

Imagine trading essentially five first round draft picks for Jonathan Kuminga.

Re: Golden Gate Bridges
I think if every team had 50 million in cap space Kuminga would struggle to get paid that much.

Re: Golden Gate Bridges
The main perk of dolan’s ownership is not needing to worry about the tax. Mikal getting what he’s worth isn’t something to fear, especially since Brunson gave us a discount specifically so his buddies could get paid.
After how close this team came to beating an Indiana team, who was a torn Achilles away from winning it all; tearing it apart before they’ve had a training camp together would be insane.

Especially since the Knocks had a quiet but pretty good off-season adding in the backups (Yabusele and Clarkson) that they pretty much lacked last season, and also added a coach who just might play them.
Come playoff time I still think NYK's creation when Brunson is off the floor is a risk and the only significant flaw in the roster -- but Kuminga isn't the answer.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Bridges was never worth 5 first round picks. Just because the Knicks paid that doesn't mean they should have or that he was worth that. In fact all of his numbers suggest that it was a massive overpay.

Regardless of what you think of the original deal, casual fans are going to see it as "5 first round picks for Kuminga" which is going to be a disaster. They knew Bridges was going to be in line for a big raise when they traded for him; if they didn't prepare for that then they didn't do their homework.
Either way Mikal >>> Kuminga in any meaningful measure.

This is what happens when instead of thinking through the deal, you just love a title lol. I think even if New York was disinclined to pay Bridges, they wouldn't look at Kuminga as the salary coming back like this. They are trying to win.

I like Yabusele and have low expectations for Clarkson, but yeah. Nevermind that Mikal’s midrange game is one of our more reliable options when Brunson is on the bench.

A centerpiece that you can build a pack around that is worth giving Mikal up for.

Still worth way more than Kuminga.
That also does give you an indication of how the Knicks organization values him, regardless of how fans feel about the trade.

Did you just call me a casual? Man, that hurt.

I was mostly joking. I do know that "five first round picks" looks crazy out of context, but most of those picks will be in the 20's and not really worth all that much.
My point is, Bridges is better than Kuminga. Kuminga is really negative value IMO, especially when you factor in what it's going to cost to sign him.
