Ben Simmons Expected To Sign Soon With Knicks, Suns, Celtics Reportedly Interested

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 23, 2025 6:52 pm

Ben Simmons remains unsigned after finishing the 2024-25 season with the Los Angeles Clippers, but a deal is expected within the next week. Simmons has been connected to the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics.

"I'm told he's probably going to make a choice in the next week," wrote ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Threads. "Knicks, Suns and yes, Celtics have all been connected to him."

Simmons is coming off the final season of his five-year, $170 million maximum contract extension signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019. Simmons is now represented by Bernie Lee.

In 18 games with the Clippers, Simmons averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 16.4 minutes.

I wish I was his agent. I would love to have the commission on his 1+1 minimum deal with a team option that isn't fully guaranteed each season until Dec 30th.

That would be Lebron surrounded by two players that you don't want shooting and one player that refuses to shoot. They would get zero minutes on the court together.

LeBron would retire immediately. That would be a horrendous lineup. Basically your turn my turn between LeBron and luka

Smart is actually a decent off ball shooter. His on-ball shooting lowers his averages. There's been a misperception since he entered the league that he should play point guard and on ball on offense, but he's always been most effective off ball and as a secondary creator.

Simmons, of course, has been unplayable ever since he passed up that shot at the rim. His confidence looks permanently wrecked

I don't think there has been a misconception about Smart. Nobody wanted him on ball, not his coaches, his teammates or his fans. It was enough of a problem that they had to trade him to make it stop. But if he takes up that Derek Fisher role in LAL, he'll do fine. (Low USG%, primary defender, extra pass, spot up shooter.)

Simmons' confidence is definitely shaken... but it also feels like he hasn't truly work on his game since he was drafted. Certainly not since he signed that last extension. It's not 100% clear to me why he wants to continue his BB journey. He made more money last season than he will make in the rest of his career.
