MLB Trade Deadline & Jays Trade Deadline Thread
With the Trade Deadline fast approaching, just 9 days, wanted a separate discussion about Potential Jays Targets and actual deals that do develop.
I'm more curious of what we actually have to offer to get additional bullpen arms/starting pitchers, etc.
Do we have bunch of guys who will needed to be added to 40 man next year, that we can offer as "Volume of prospects" to get a piece. Is it Jake Bloss we trade out, even though he's injured.
Who is on trading block - or is it someone from MLB Roster?

Re: MLB Trade Deadline & Jay Trade Deadline
We need a reliever and a RH bat. Modest additions imho.
I'd be less inclined to go all-in for a front-end starter or anything very expensive tbh. The current group got us here - and seems to be managing fine in a wide-open American League - and has kind of earned it. One bad or unlucky series and you can easily regret gutting your system for years.
The Jays blew their short(ish)-term and long-term budgets on Santander and Vladdy. The plan was for those investments to pay off. The 'others' have given us a chance. But the FO has put their financial chips in with the current roster. I think they/we are forced to live with the outcome of those decisions, good or bad. As Norman Dale might say, 'this is your team.' Better not blow your farm/young talent on fleeting additions just to prop up the contracts you agreed to in the offseason. Could compound your problem going forward.

Agreed, we don't really have a farm team to blow up anyways, unless we are moving our only big trade chips in Yesavage and Nimmela
I'm thinking Jays trade Orelvis Martinez

Depends on what is available, but if you can get an elite-ish controllable arm for Yesavage, Nimmala + ... do it. Don't know if Jays have enough to acquire that type of piece.
The ideal scenario maybe some sort of package to move Varsho, Yesavage, Nimmala + for an upgrade at CF and front of the rotation SP, but again, Jays lack of resources in the minors may prevent them from acquiring that. It may take a 4 prospect package to get something like that.

I could see Severino … someone who is tied up, and will fill the $ paid to Bassitt/Scherzer when they likely leave next year.

Need a RHB pretty badly too (if we're actually planning on beating actual contenders like NYY, DET and HOU), as we'll see by the lineup they'll throw out against Fried tomorrow.

Needs in no particular order:
- A RH bat that can mash lefties.
- A high leverage reliever, preferably 2.
- either top of the rotation starter (unlikely) or at least someone as good as the current rotation (#3-4 type).

Guessing we'll see guys like Wagner, Loperfido, Clase, and Roden all shipped out to try to make some of these happen.

RH bat... Marcell Ozuna? Everyone will fight for Suarez, Ozuna is having a down season but he's a good hitter and probably won't cost as much.

If its a RHB bat that plays more of a platoon role / some starts vs RHP, I'm down with that. The cost should not be overly prohibitive.
But if its a middle of the order RHB bat that plays every day, where the cost will not be cheap, I would rather spend those assets on pitching.
Could a target be someone like Austin Hays. Reds are only 3.5 games out of the playoffs right now, but if they fall back to 5.0 over the next week they may be looking to sell off.

Re: MLB Trade Deadline & Jay Trade Deadline
Would you do either of these trades? Both rated equal per btv fwiw.
keller (3 years under market value after this year) and Bednar (1 year after this year)
For
Nimmala
Roden
Loperfido/maraudis
(I’d actually love to sneak Heaney into the deal as a Lefty that can be Max insurance down the stretch and a high k/9 lefty out of pen .
Twins shopping their Set up man and closer , both studs with 2 more years of control after this as they are in arbitration
Jax and Duran
For
Nimmala, tiedemann, Roden, loperfido/maroudis

Re: MLB Trade Deadline & Jay Trade Deadline
2025 MLB trade deadline preview: Passan's intel on every team - ESPN
Toronto Blue Jays: All-in
Biggest needs: SP, RP
Best fit: Mitch Keller, SP
The latest: The Blue Jays' magical run this season has warranted an aggressive tack and if they don't wake up Aug. 1 with at least one impact arm acquired, the disappointment will be palpable.
With Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer headed to free agency after this season and Kevin Gausman following 2026, getting an under-control starter -- such as Keller, who has three years at around $55 million remaining on his deal after this season -- is a priority. If they can't swing that, there's plenty of good pitching among will-be free agents. And the relief market is flush enough that they can complement Jeff Hoffman, Yariel Rodriguez, Brendon Little, Chad Green, Braydon Fisher and Yimi Garcia with one more arm to make some kind of nasty bullpen.
Toronto's farm system, though improved, doesn't have quite the heft of others that are going after top-end talent. If that means dealing from a surplus of big league position players instead, it's an option.
There's still some skepticism about the Blue Jays' ability to replicate the first 100 games over the final 62. The deadline offers the opportunity to show they're more than worthy of carrying first place in baseball's most competitive division.

I personally wouldn't do either of those... If we're giving up Nimmala I'd want someone like Ryan on Minny.

If we're willing to take on extra salary, how much of a "discount" could when it comes to prospect capital?
